Q: Any sheerness to these?

I'd say they're 99.99% black opaque.

Q: how high up do these socks go. are they below the knees. ?

They go up to just below (2") the back bend of my knee. Stretchy but tight and they don't fall down all day. From the bottom of my foot to the top of the sock is 16" +/- an inch. They are a bit of a struggle to put on in the morning, but you don't have to pull them up all day. They are wearing good so far.
