This natural 'off-white' colored wool comes from my sheep known as "chapo". He is one member of my flock of Navajo-churro sheep; lovingly raised on my small organic farm in new Mexico, U.S.A. Navajo-churro sheep are a unique and rare breed of sheep that are considered sacred by the Navajo people. Navajo-churro have a double-coated wool, a strong and lustrous outer coat and a soft inner coat. It is classified as a 'coarse' wool. This is the type of wool highly prized by rug-weaving artisans. This wool has a very low 'grease' content and it is wonderful for spinning, weaving, knitting, and felting. The 2 ounce package of wool has been washed and hand-picked of most debris. It has a minimum amount of vm (vegetable matter). It takes all dyes, including natural plant-based dyes, beautifully. All of my sheep are sheared by a 3rd generation sheep shearer, ensuring a high quality cut fleece with minimum second cuts.
