Where do I begin? While trying to be more practical I decided spending hundreds of dollars for a designer backpack and giving my hard earned money to people who already have hundreds of millions of dollars in their checking accounts and more money than I will ever see is a thing of the past. Sorry Coach!!(Not Sorry) I read many of the reviews for this backpack and decided to give it a shot. I'm so glad I did!!! THIS BACKPACK IS AWESOME!!! The backpack arrived folded and cryo wrapped. Upon unwrapping the strong chemical smell took over my kitchen but I was expecting that from many of the reviews I read. The hardware was nicely wrapped in cellophane so there was no mold or corrison. First thing I did was stuff the bag with old clothes and rags to get the full shape of the bag. Then I wiped it down with a damp cloth and this reduced the smell consideribly. Next was to treat it with mineral oil and that's when this beauty came to life. The color became lusturous and shiny. It now looks like one of the best looking backpacks I've seen. The hardware is functional but subpar but I will soon upgrade with solid brass or pewter hardware. From the looks that should be an easy swap. I added a draw string pulley from an old designer bag and I think it adds a nice touch. The backpack is durable, well made and just the right size (16in). I like the placement of the additional pockets and find them to be very functional. I do wish it had a separate compartment for laptops, pens, pencils and card slots but for $50 bucks I'll deal. It really looks great should last for years with proper care. The vintage style is a major head turner. I can't wait to really put it to the weekend warrior test. For the price, durability, quality and style this is an awesome backpack. Get one. You'll be glad you did.

My word, this thing is great! I'll be honest, I've had MANY backpacks over the years (high school, college, going to comic cons, etc), but none of them had that 'this is a commitment' type of feel to it. Like buying a beater car vs a nice car you're proud of. This backpack is one that I am indeed VERY proud of.The leather is very nice, the stitching is solid, the rivets hold everything together very nicely, I cannot think of one thing to complain about! I would normally complain about how rigid it is, but as time goes on, the leather will soften up and have a bit more play in it.For the price, it's TOTALLY worth it! Surprised at how many pockets it has, like....WOW!

This is the second one I've bought... the first was the 18" bag and as others have commented, it does have an odd smell. The smell disappears in a week or so... and it's not horrible, just odd! The bag went camping with me and sucked up all of the humidity in the tent... no damage from being wet and if anything, the leather is now softer and the bag looks better. I have had no problems with either of these bags but I do see where the stitching across the back could give out of you overloaded the bag too often. That being said... I packed about 20 lbs worth of crap in the bag, drove to Canada, threw it in a tent for a week, and traipsed all over the place with it and had no issues. For the price, this bag is nice looking, useful, and has held up.

I needed a smaller backpack to carry rain gear and "stuff" while on a river tour. When I saw the bag I though it was the perfect size and it was. The price point was so low I was skeptical and then I read all the one star and five star reviews. I want to thank all the folks that wrote one star reviews because it kept my expectations reasonable. I want to thank all the five star reviews for convincing me to just go ahead and buy it. The smell is exactly what I recall as a kid buying Army surplus leather gear after WWII. I like it...go figure! The leather looks great and is certainly strong enough for the use I have. Yes, it is too small for an efficient book bag but this product definitely exceeds my expectations and is a great value at $30 more than I paid for leather product I received.

Perfect bag for carrying the essentials even we guys need on-the-go (phones are getting bigger; water always; never be without a book, e- or plain paper; advice from someone who has been all over the world in the most out of the way jungles and in the most ancient, still bustling cities--don't ever get caught without a small "Moleskin" notebook or journal and if you're a true writer a nice fountain pen, but really even just a damn pencil and a tiny pocket knife that has a blade to sharpen with and a bottle opener for liquid courage and inspiration--and the spare phone battery, small torch, a.k.a. penlight, and extra memory card; and all the other little things that make you you) and all the other little items you'll only wish you had brought when you reach in your pocket and find it's not there along with whatever else you don't have the room in your pockets for. Don't feel like wearing a man purse? Want to have a strong, lasting and durable bag instead of another in a long line of lame canvas backpacks--or worse? Plus, whether you're in faded jeans slogging through the back streets of any city anywhere, toking up with friends in Sheep's Meadow in NY or in a suit and tie making tomorrow today, this leather pack will go with anything and through just as much. It's worth it. So treat yourself. TWO THINGS TO REMEMBER IF YOU DO THOUGH: 1. Make sure you do treat yourself and don't just buy it and leave it behind, and 2. Be sure that before you use it you treat the leather to keep it soft and waterproof. With regular maintenance, as with all other leather, it will always be a classic and never go out of style and yes, it will last you a life time--if not longer.

The product design is very good and the color is really very beautiful tan. I will give a 5 for that.But it does smell.. not the nice leather smell bu a bit over the edge smell. Tried a few things to get rid of the smell, used leather honey and also put silicon granules in the bag and kept it covered in a bag with silicon granules but did not work. It still has strong smell

Its sturdy stylish and good leather will last for years exactly why I wanted it. I had one in blk and it was stolen. A tragedy that broke my heart as it was a gift.
