Looking to buy these for my daughter. What paint is needed and do they need to be primed first?

Acrylic paint and yes, a primer is needed. I mainly use Army Painter sets as they are damn good and a bit cheaper than GW ones. A Matt black or White spray from Halfords or similar for cars works perfectly as a base if shaken well (5+ mins), or the Games Workshop base spray can, though that's double the price.
