Approved by hamster and his people
I purchased this wheel for my Bear Hamster (a kind of Syrian Hamster, which is large) to replace the wheel that the pet store had originally recommended to us. This wheel is superior in every regard and was well worth the premium price for me. My hamster appears to feel similarly and uses the wheel day in, day out (or should I say, night). Here is what I like about the wheel:1. It is large. Its diameter is sufficiently large to limit the arching of my hamster's back. The older, 7-inch, wheel produced such severe arching that it saw very little use2. It is quiet. All I can hear are little feet and a faint rubbing noise from where the wheel rotates about its axle. A faint squeak that appeared after a couple of months was stopped immediately (and for at least another month since) with a single drop of olive oil in each pivot (don't use WD-40 or 3-in-1 oil: my hamster started licking the lubricated spot immediately)3. It is stable. The steel rod base is large enough to hold the wheel stably. This is particularly important as the wheel must be placed on top of the bedding (as most wheels do) to prevent the bedding from rubbing against the wheel's bottom. So even though the wheel sways a little, it has never fallen over in several months of use4. It attracted my hamster. As the manufacturer claimed, the enclosed running space immediately attracted my hamster. Once he realized that the thing also turns - in addition to having these great holes - he was "sold"You should be aware of some other considerations:- The overall dimensions of the wheel are large, so make sure that the cage of your animal(s) is large enough- Disassembly is not difficult, but it's not as simple as a single turn of the wrist, either. If you have a set of small pliers, you will be glad you used them to pull and reinsert the cotter pin that keeps the assembly on the axle

barely fits in our ovo cristal cage
we have a biggish syrian hamster who lives in a habitrail system comprised of an ovo cristal cage, a habitrail twist, an adventure trail set an a few more tubes. His feet had some kind of injury on them, so we wanted to replace the wheel that came with the cage.First we bought a silent spinner, which was great because it was super quiet and it happened to fit in the Twist cage on the wall slot that was made for the wheel that came with the cage. However, our big guy was still too big and kept falling off the inside of the wheel. This It just barely fits in the Cristal - its height is super close, but it barely works for us without friction. It fit in the Twist with a little more clearance, but it ate up so much of the floor space we prefer it in the Cristal. Our syrian runs in it for many hours. It occasionally needs a little vegetable oil on the axle to avoid noise - no ball bearings. I don't recommend this over the silent spinner for in-bedroom use.

Hammy loves running AND resting in this! And it's SO quiet!
I purchased this online ahead of time knowing I was going to buy a Syrian hamster for my daughter's birthday. The wheel arrived today, so I went ahead & bought a hamster a few hours ago. I have all kinds of cool stuff in his large enclosure (hideaways, toys, etc) but he loves this wheel, both for running or resting. Thank goodness it's as quiet as it is, since he has been using it a LOT.We eventually bought a different cage (Qute cage by Omlet...pricey, but highly recommend). This wheel fits in it, but I had to tie it down to the wires to keep it from rattling, so I removed it and put it in his "temporary habitat" (large open air bin I put him in while cleaning his Qute cage). He raced to his Wodent Wheel like a long lost friend and started running like crazy. He prefers this wheel to the one in his cage. If you're getting the Qute, there is nothing wrong with that wheel- it's great....sleek, quiet, pretty, easy to clean. He just started with the best & doesn't like the open wheel design as much now. He loves the semi-enclosed design of the Wodent Wheel so much better. This wheel does cost more, but is worth it in my opinion

It works great for my syrian but in a tank
It works great for my syrian but in a tank, it's pretty noisy. Haven't figured out how to get it to be quiet yet.

Very loud
Very loud. Ended up donating it. Could hear it a room away; interrupted our TV watching. Hamster seemed to enjoy it.

I think they are getting better about sharing it
I know one of my mice loves this thing and runs on it all the time. I have two mice, and when the other one wants to go inside while the other is running, he keeps having his nose tapped from the openings. I think they are getting better about sharing it, though. Also, when two mice are running in the same direction, then one stops, he flies out the opening. It doesn't appear to hurt or cause any damage, but it's funny, in a sad, adorable way. I feel bad when it happens.I was surprised how well the wheel is balanced; The image doesn't really show how the stand looks, but it sits quite solid, and doesn't appear to wobble in any way, and looks quite stable. It is also really quiet. Yes, it CAN be heard, but it doesn't squeak or make a lot of noise.

Its a good size for my syrian hamster
Much quieter and safer than the metal one we had before. Only noise it makes is because our hamster moves all of the bedding from underneath the wheel and it shakes on the glass. Thats just the hamsters preference, not the products fault. It must have grown accustomed to the noisy wheel she had before. Its a good size for my syrian hamster. Anything bigger than a syrian and the product would be too small. This is a wonderful product!!! If it were ever to break (which I doubt since its good quality) i would replace it with the same thing.
