Stargate SG-1: The Complete Series

I purchased the DVD box set of SG-1 many years ago. This BR set remasters all seasons and the first few years benefit most in this regard. The conversion from 4:3 crops the frame a bit as one would expect, but the effect is barely noticeable and it simply looks better on now common high aspect ratio displays.

The picture and sound is IMMENSELY better than the streaming on Prime Video...even better, you don't have to watch ads to enjoy it! After SG-1 was dropped from other streaming services, and after Prime started asking for more money for ad-free video (boo!), I bought this set, and was immediately stunned at just how much better it looks and sounds on blu-ray. This is an EXTREMELY good deal on TEN (10!) seasons (real seasons, not these 8 to 10 episode mini-series they call seasons these days!) of one of the best sci-fi shows ever produced. If you are a fan, this is a must buy...especially since you never know if you will lose the ability to stream it in the future.

My favorite program of all time, along with Star Trek.

I love this series and I am so excited to own it. Highly recommend to anyone who loves science fiction and military! My kiddo is even getting into the series!

I have recently watched other shows on Dvd from the same time period, 90s and 00s, and they were both fair video quality. This is such a pleasure to watch. What a treat to watch a show that isn't available on blu ray yet at near 720 quality on a Dvd.The case is really nice and compact, especially considering it is a 10 season show. It seems to be an official release though I am puzzled how much cheaper this release is compared to the other releases that also aren't enhanced picture quality.The 5.1 surround sound functions perfectly and the subtitles function as well.I have only watched the first disc and second disc and have read others reviews that noted problems with some discs and I will update this if I encounter any problems.Edit (9-24) Well I have had no problems with episodes not playing or freezing.I still don't know how they are able to fit 6 episodes on each DVD disc and offer what I view as 720 quality. I watched the Babylon 5 series, the complete series Dvd's, purchased here on Amazon and this Stargate DVD set offers a supremely better picture quality than that.I also did note that episodes at the beginning of series are slightly out of order; it is only, to my memory, 2 episodes out of order, and only off by about 2 time slots. I only caught this because the same happened with the Farscape Blu-ray box-set so I looked for it when I started watching, checking against epguide. The episodes were only slightly out of order and really was not a big deal and it seems not an uncommon occurrence with these complete series box-sets.

As other have pointed out, the big downside is Seasons 1-7 are in standard definition, seasons 8-10 are the only ones in high def. I'd love to see earlier seasons in true HD, but the cost would be extreme so this is the best we'll get. And the SD does really look good, it's just not the stunning sharpness of HD.All episodes are wide screen. Plenty of commentaries, but not in the first few seasons. I saw a reference that the pilot had a commentary track, but I didn't find it on this set.There are 4 discs per season, plus a disc with bonus material. There's also bonus material on many of the season discs.I tested all discs, and all were correctly labeled and worked fine. I had to clean/polish 2 discs a little to get them to read, but now they work perfect. All the other discs worked on my old Blu-ray reader without a single issue.

Great collection!PROS:1. All 10 seasons of Stargate, yours to own!2. The box and presentation in the box protects the disks very well and looks good on the shelf.3. The flip booklet that houses the disks is sturdy, easy to navigate, is see-thru so you know exactly what your looking for, and fits perfectly inside the box.4. The quality of each episode is outstanding! Above and beyond the quality of the originals. Even the first couple seasons, which were originally boxed and grainy, is now fullscreen, clear of static, and HD quality like never before.5. The price!!!! You're not going to find an SG1 complete set of this quality and price point. PERIOD.CONS:1. My first of only two cons is why I give this set 4 stars instead of 5. The set comes with a booklet that tells you which episodes are on each disk, as well as the special features on those disks. The problem with mine is that THERE ARE NO SPECIAL FEATURES! I don't know if every set has the same problem as mine does (probably not considering others haven't mentioned it), but mine came with NONE.The booklet says they're there but I have yet to see any special features. The special features were not a huge selling point for me, so it didn't affect my rating much. However, I'm sure others will feel different.2. My only other complaint has nothing to do with the set itself but the art on the box. Michael Shanks, who plays Dr. Daniel Jackson gets the SNUB!! The box cover features Colonel O'Neill (two L's), Colonel Samantha Carter, Teal'c, and..... Jonas Quinn?!?!? Quinn was in 25 total episodes, as opposed to Dr. Jackson's 192 episodes as a main character. Yet, Jonas Quinn gets on the box and Jackson gets the shaft. I was more annoyed by this than the special features not being there.All in all, even with my two complaints, I would recommend this set over all the others. Dont hesitate buying because I promise this set will increase in value quickly (just look at the other boxed sets, whose quality doesn't come close, and the skyrocketing prices for them).
