Solid Encoder but Poor Mac Support
We have two of these encoders that we use for live streaming events and they are solid performers. Our live stream platform of choice is Wowza, and with this service we are able to set up one Talon as our primary encoder and a second Talon as our backup encoder.Our biggest gripe with the encoders is the more difficult setup process for getting it up and running on an ethernet network. Setup is all done through a web interface, which can be challenging when you plug the device into a network and its IP address is assigned dynamically. To get around this, Osprey has a computer application that does a network scan and gives you the IP address of the Talon device, as long as you are using a PC or Linux machine because they don't have a Mac version of the client. Very annoying. That said, once you have the IP address for the Talon, setup is generally straight forward, and configuring the device to work with Wowza is a breeze.Overall I would recommend this product, though as a Mac-based production company we're disappointed that Opsrey doesn't offer better Mac support.
