This is a cute book for the middle grade, chapter book crowd with many fond nods to Dungeons and Dragons and has a lovely lesson about good friends and inter-generational redemption.Our heroine is a human pretending to be a minotaur kid in a world where humans are hated and feared.The rest of the story is that she was abandoned by her mom as a baby, and the kindly minotaur couple took her in and raised her as their own daughter.Zelli, the heroine, wears a fake set of horns and a cloth tail as a disguise. We come to find out that all her friends already know that she is human though.Zelli is the protector of the downtrodden.When she hears that adventurers are threatening her dungeon home, Zelli and her friends jump to the rescue and are able to defeat the eeeeeevil Lich using quick thinking and teamwork.Also, Zelli finds and confronts her real, biological mom in an interesting plot twist.I recommend this book.

This book was delightful. It's perfect for those familiar with the world of D&D style monsters or those just dipping their toes into the world of fantasy. Clever, insightful and thoroughly touching at times this book makes you feel like you're on the quest with the main characters. A perfect, poignant coming of age story, this book is even a fun read for adults. I can't wait until my daughter is just a bit older (she's 4 right now) and has the attention span to be able to read it with her. Though I'm familiar with the world of D&D I've only been a player for about a year, though my husband has been playing it for nearly 20 years. We read it together and both thoroughly enjoyed it equally.

This is a wonderful adventure for kids to go on. It’s a great introduction to the world of RPG for younger people.
