I have been running over glass and debris the whole time, no punctures, in fact I don't even carry a spare tube anymore, just patches. And yes they are slower than fast rolling lightweight race tires by quite a bit, but I think it is totally worth it, and I don't really notice it once I got used to it. The tread does very well in the rain and the reflective sidewalls are a plus. Once these finally wear out after a few years I will definitely replace them with the same ones. Well worth the money.
