The Moroccan Black Soap (a.k.a. Savon Noir, or Savon Beldi), is one of our favourite parts of the Moroccan hammam ritual. It's a perfect mixture of olive oil and other essential oils (such as eucalyptus oil or wormwood), macerated black olives, which are soaked in salt and potash, and scented with argan, lavender, rose or orange blossom. It has been created with techniques that are more than 3000 years old, and used both to prepare the skin for exfoliation, and for exfoliation itself; it is an ultimate cleansing treatment for the skin. Aisha Oil Moroccan Black Soap products are 100% organically produced, starting by extracting and cold-pressing the kernels of the olives. This oil then goes through the same rigorous refining process as all of our other oils, where it is filtered to achieve optimum clarity. Once we've got the oil, the olives (which have been pitted and crushed) are added, and the mixture is soaked in a solution of salt and potash. Some companies use artificial potash, but ours is always 100% organic and unprocessed. Our traditionally-harvested potash has been made with the utmost attention to detail, making sure you only receive the most natural ingredients in your soap. How do I use it? Moroccan Black soap is extremely useful, beyond the common uses of regular soap. It doesn't feel like soap, though, and is much closer to the consistency of butter. Black Soap does not produce a large volume of lather, so it is important to always make sure your pores are open before applying the soap. This means ensuring that your skin is moistened with warm water, and that you use the soap in a steamy bathroom (or Hammam, or sauna).
