NJB Pocket Edition Cased Bible (New Jerusalem Bible)

Love the small size - 4" x 5-3/4" - and that 1463 pages is only 1-1/4" thick... but I miss the great Notes of the Study Edition!The text for this Pocket Edition is clearly legible, the font is perfect for size and clarityI think the New Jerusalem Bible (Study Edition) is one of the very best versions out on the market right nowso this Pocket Edition is a great compromise if you don't want to lug the big Study Edition around.The only thing that could make it better - my dream Bible version- is if they issued a similarly compact Edition as this, that included all the Notes of the Study EditionFor example a 4.5" x 6.5" sized book is 27% larger,and if they used lighter weight paper they could get 200+ more pages into the same 1-1/4" thick parameterPerhaps that would allow enough room to incorporate all the Notes, but still be Compact for studying on the go?That would be my dream version of the New Jerusalem BibleBut this Pocket Edition is still very handy and useful nonetheless, really like it.Especially like that they translate God's name everywhere that it occurs in the Old Testament.You can't build a relationship with Yahweh if you don't know or use his name!Likewise, it's clear the Apocryphal books are not inspired by Yahweh like the Canonical books arewhy? - mainly because his name Yahweh is not found in them.

For those of you who love the New Jerusalem Bible, but would like a compact edition, this is it. There's only one problem. It's not supposed to be sold to the US which I discovered after receiving it, but I ordered it and it was shipped without a problem. We have the NAB compact edition and the RSV-CE compact zippered, but I really and truly prefer the NJB, and this is exactly what I was looking for. There is not an American publisher promoting this compact version.Update 2/2/2014 -There are a lot of 1 and 2 star reviews from people who were upset over the size, so I'll update. I think such reviews are unfair because it suggests a deficiency in a product that arrives exactly as advertised. The dimensions are listed in the product description. 6"x4.5"x1.7" (it's right there in the description) That it's a zippered bible means the paper is even smaller since more than 1/2" lengthwise and width-wise is devoted to accommodation of the zipper. That the text is tiny in such a small Bible should go without saying, but the text is tiny. This Bible can squeeze into some pockets, although it's pushing the boundary of a pocket Bible. I suppose they could have photographed it next to a dime or held in the hand for size purposes, because that's the only way that I can think of to photograph small.Edit: And it's currently listed for over $200 by some sellers. That's absurd.

If you can read small print, want a super portable Bible, and don’t plan to write or take notes within the margins this is a good choice.Many complaints on here about font size - look at the dimensions and imagine fitting the entire text of the Bible inside that small space. Of course the print is small.If you write in your Bibles, look elsewhere. The margins are far too small, except in Psalms.Still worried about size? Take a 8x11 piece of printer paper and mark out the dimensions for the Bible.

One of my favorite translations. But the print size is ridiculously small. There’s enough margin left on the the page that the publisher could certainly increase the font size while keeping the overall book the same size. My only complaint with this translation, including the full-size Bible, is that they can never get the formatting down. Their full size bibles, while readable, just way too bulky to be portable. If they can come up with a good middle ground, I’d wager this translation (or the more recent revision) would become one of the best selling Bibles anywhere. Even though the size of the print is my only complaint, it is a MALOR issue with this Bible, thus they get 1 star.

Description and ISBN are incorrect. The image with the red background is correct, but slightly misleading.I ordered directly from Amazon, and the ISBN/UPC stickers on the case match the listing for the black leather edition, but the item I received is the 'pocket cased edition', ISBN 978-0-232-51890-0. This is smaller than the listed size by approximately 1/2 inch in every dimension, and is not leather-bound, but hardbound in a textured vinyl or polyurethane.However, the slipcase is nice, and covered in the same material as the Bible.This is the 1990 Pocket Reader's Edition of the 1985 text of the New Jerusalem Bible. There are very few references or footnotes, and only the books of poetry are set in a single-column format. I am keeping the item because this is close enough to what I need.

This is a very attractive Bible, and in my copy there is no issue with page 1396. The font is a bit small and the pages a bit thin, but that is to be expected when ordering a "pocket sized" Bible. I like the gold edges, the explanatory comments and headings, and the overall feel of this Bible. The Apocrypha is included. This Bible is exactly what I was hoping for. Quick delivery, too. Thank you.

La Bibbia non c'entra niente. Ma i caratteri sono minuscoli. Non capisco. Eppure c'è spazio anche se è una Bibbia tascabile ma davvero hanno ridotto troppo i caratteri e non ce ne era bisogno.1 stella per i caratteri. Ovviamente restituita.

Siempre me ha gustado la Biblia de Jerusalén por su traducción y constante renovación de sus notas de estudio, y aquí tenemos un ejemplo de ello, aunque es la edición de bolsillo mejoró en sus notas y materiales auxiliares.

I liked it.But the Handwriting is small as in any pocket Bible. Hardcover, easy to use, can fit a purse.
