This book should be in the hands of EVERY Christian husband.I don't make that statement lightly. There are many books on marriage, some good, some not so good. Some are heavy on philosophy & theology, some on psychology, some on practical advice. Some are slanted toward newlyweds while others focus on troubled marriages. Some are thoroughly Biblical while many give the Bible only lip service even though they are marketed as Christian.Loving Your Wife as Christ Loves the Church, however, is truly in a class by itself among the marriage books that I have read. It is:Bible based: It's not self-help pop psychology with Bible verses to back it up: every chapter, every point comes from a strictly Biblical foundation from the ground up. Frankly, a non-Christian wouldn't understand this book at all, and frankly, that's the mark of a thoroughly Biblical book.Christ focused: this book takes seriously the truth that God designed the role of a husband to his wife to be a unique representation of Christ, and that EVERYTHING that a husband thinks, says, or does in relation to his wife has to be based on that truth. Every single teaching on every single page is rooted & grounded in the character of Christ. Wow.Pastoral: This is a pastoral book. By that I mean you see this man's heart as a pastor, a shepherd. He sits you down as a friend & mentor, as Paul would to Timothy, & speaks in both truth & love. His words are straightforward & easy to grasp, but targeted to one end: helping you become a husband that is a reflection of Christ.Honest: This book doesn't pretend that marriage is easy if you just follow these five simple steps. He's honest about the difficulties & shares some of his own failures as a husband. Not many books would dare say, "It is often harder to live for your wife than it would be to die for her. It involves dying daily... a readiness to lay down everything he holds dear to care for her."Change-Oriented: This book both challenges the reader to change with its in-your-face truth and with specific action steps at the end of each chapter. If you don't change as a husband by the end of the book it is only because you have decided to reject the truth presented in it.Designed for Group Study: The author specifically recommends to go through the book with a group of other men, & there are discussion questions at the end of each chapter.If you are a husband, buy this book. It will challenge you to become a better reflection of Christ to your wife & to the world. Whether you have a marriage that is the envy of your friends or you are one step away from divorce, this book is for you. If you are a wife, buy this book and then put your husband's best friend in a head lock until he agrees to give it to him to read (it wouldn't be very submissive to put your husband in a head lock until he buys it). Bottom line: buy this book.

This book is filled with relevant information that is biblically based. I gave it five stars, because of how much it is based on Scripture. It is not so cumbersome that you have to stop every two sentences and look up verses. But at the same time it is not filled with a lot of fluff or opinions either. Every time you turn the page you are pointed back to Jesus. It is impossible to not see Jesus throughout this book.I would definitely recommend this book to those beginning marriage or those who have hit a rough patch and need the Spirit to revitalize your marriage. Men, if your wife isn't first in your life (behind Jesus), then this book will help prioritize what is most important...it did me.

This gives me a renewed energy desire to continue with some things I do. I am also convicted of some things I have done against my wife that would displeased God. Pray for me to Love my wife LIKE CHRIST LOVED THE CHURCH

Yup, it's the husband's fault. God ordained that the husband is the pastor of his mini church - his wife and maybe his family. And the parents are to emulate God's unconditional love between themselves so as to model God's love before their children.Likely the vast majority of today's marriages and families are broken down because the husband has not stepped up to his responsibility.Read this book to finally understand your role and responsibility. Find out what maratisl intimacy in God's world is all about and how satisfying it can become.

I have read this book twice. I lost my wife of 51 years to cancer 16 months ago and I have fallen in love with a beautiful lady and I saw this book in a store in California and got it. I read it so it could help me if we get married. The book is awesome, I wish I had read it before my wife passed and I could have put into practice some of the things Larry talks about.I want to make sure that if God blesses me with marrying this wonderful lady that I don't make some of the same mistakes I made the first time. My marriage was very good, it lasted 51 years, but I know I could have done a lot of things different and this time that's what I want.The book is excellent for both married men or men like me that are thinking about getting married. It is so much better to know what to do correctly ahead of time than to find out what you should have done after the fact.I am giving this book to friends of mine that are married to read. I have given it to my pastor for read also. I think it would be a great study group subject for all married men.

Maybe this would’ve helped to read prior or in the beginning of marriage. Not as a last straw type of self help book 🤷🏻‍♀️ We will never know

Great book for husbands whether you've just come to know Christ or have been walking with Him for awhile. The author does a great job of outlining what Christ has done for us and what we can do as husbands to love our wives the same way. Even if your relationship with your wife is healthy and Christlike you can benefit from reading and applying this book!

This would be a great read for every man that is married, engaged or wants to someday be married. I love to read so when my husband got this book, of course, I read it. As a wife, I appreciated the authors input into his and his wife's lives. I would recommend this book if you would like to grow closer as a loving couple in your marriage.

This book was not an easy read-it made me feel very inadequate in my marriage.

Buy it, read it, live it.
