Hope this helps. **Q: Do these have a built in diode?** A: Not for the led that is determined by the wattage of the bulb a 12 volt led 1156 should have the diode built in it. **Q: Can you leave the relay energized for long periods of time? I want to connect to the 'load' circuit on a solar panel controller.** A: The load would have a big affect on how long it can run. I have LED running lights wired in on my motorcycle which are on all the time so they can be lit for many hours at a time. So far I have not had any issues with these relays. A low load through the contact would allow it to be energized forever theoretically. **Q: What gauge is the wires I need 12 gauge but I have found normally they are only 14 gauge** A: On the set just received, three wires are 14 GA. (power and N.O. and N.C. wires).
