1.) To sew this item to clothing using trim: Loop trim around outside slots, sew close to clasp. Sew trim to clothing. 2.) To sew this item directly to clothing: Tack top and bottom corners of each "bar" (4 tacks total) to clothing. Or you can satin stitch around the entire bar area. Enjoy!

A quality item
This is a quality finding, nicely made and with good fit and finish. It feels as though it should be respectably strong. I wouldn't use it as a belt buckle, it's too small, but it ought to work fine as the cloak clasp I bought it for and I'd have no hesitation about using it on a light cape. I have no doubt you could even use a row of these to fasten a coat.
