CANtact v1.0 Open Source Controller Area Network (CAN) to USB Converter

the software is free and well documented you must have interest in tinkering and have to spend timeresearching and learning. its worth it to me.

I'm sure it's a great board but I received mine missing the 16mhz oscillator crystal. Plugged it in and dmesg just gave me error after error until I looked at the board and saw it was missing a piece, it must have been a cold solder joint and it popped off. I didn't realize it until after the return window was up so I guess I'll just have to fix it myself.

Great device for Reverse Engineering CanBus and Researching. Only downside is no case and no cables, which runs another $15-$20 or so, and then making sure the cables work properly. Runs on Ubuntu linux well. Documentation is somewhat difficult to find and really should come with a cheat-sheet on the jumper settings. Would recommend for hobbists and professionals.

Not for beginners

Quality seems high. Board and soldering is clean. Device works fairly well, given its simple purpose.

Sorry, but I am frustrated. The device arrived "as is" and nothing more, i.e. absolutely null documentation, not even a little card with a web address. I am in the CAN business for 20+ years but without supporting information this device is useless.
