"NCIS" Season 13: A season of gain, loss, and struggle for the NCIS team...
WARNING! This review contains SPOILERS! Read on only if you dare…Hard on the heels of a twelfth season in which “NCIS” successfully regained much of the swagger and superb storytelling it lost in Season 11, comes a “lucky 13th” season that provides new challenges for our team of NCIS agents… and the departure of one of the show’s biggest stars.Having just completed its 13th season on CBS, “NCIS” is a procedural crime drama inspired by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), an actual civilian-run law enforcement agency of the U.S. Navy. The show follows the investigations of Special Agents “Leroy Jethro Gibbs” (Mark Harmon), “Tony DiNozzo” (Michael Weatherly), “Eleanor (Ellie) Bishop” (Emily Wickersham), and “Timothy McGee” (Sean Murray), as well as Medical Examiner “Donald (Ducky} Mallard” (David McCallum), and forensics expert “Abby Sciuto” (Pauley Perrette). From Season 13’s very first episode, it’s clearly evident that “NCIS” is intent on continuing several tense, taut and thrilling storylines from Season 12, in addition to providing many interesting new cases for our heroes to investigate. First up is the resolution of the “cliffhanger” from the Season 12 finale… did Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs survive being shot by a teen-age member of “The Calling?” We know, of course, that he did, but what we don’t know – and what is slowly and skillfully revealed throughout the new season – is what the long-term effects of the shooting are on our main protagonist…Thus begins one of the darkest and most intense seasons of “NCIS” that’s appeared in several years. Many of this season’s episodes interweave Gibbs’s struggle to recover from his shooting with current cases under investigation. Other team members have their own personal struggles as well. Ellie Bishop must cope with her husband’s infidelity and the breakup of her marriage. Tim McGee must adjust to living with his wheel chair-bound girlfriend Delilah, and tries to summon the courage to propose to her. Tony Dinozzo, after twice encountering old flame Jeanne Benoit, begins struggling with the age-old questions of who he is and what he wants from life.A multi-episode story arc at season’s end involves an escaped British intelligence agent who had been convicted of stealing NCIS secrets. As NCIS, FBI, Homeland Security, and British intelligence agents begin a joint investigation, a former colleague is killed, a close friend is grievously wounded, and an old and nearly forgotten foe resurfaces. Against this backdrop, one of the team members experiences the tragic loss of a loved one, is introduced to someone of very special significance, and must now decide on the future direction of his life…For the most part, I really enjoyed “NCIS” Season 13. A few of the episodes – most notably “Incognito” and “Double Trouble” - seemed to me a bit contrived, but others – especially the final four of the season – rank among the best in “NCIS’s” long canon of outstanding episodes. As with nearly all previous seasons, “NCIS” Season 13 is entertaining, suspenseful, and comes highly recommended.

mostly loved it, though I will likely leave with DiNozzo
I came to NCIS late ... binged watched the first 12 seasons and am now caught up to Season 13 ... mostly loved it, though I will likely leave with DiNozzo ... mostly cause I need to not spend so much time on line! I agree with all the positive features others have mentioned so won't repeat ... however I want to add other reasons I think it has had such a long run: its patriotic; its always respectful of those who serve our country whether Marine, Navy or Army or any other service (my dad was a Marine ... always) and my brother a drafted member of the Army who served in Viet Nam and came home ... one of the finest men I know); its very supportive of family whether blood or co-worker; very little off color language; though the scripts are always about crime, they still also emphasize the character and principles like honesty, duty, loyalty, compassion for the poor and weak, justice ... I think these reasons are very much a part of why so many have watched, and continue to watch it all these years... the only ones who have kept it fresh for me ... I love Abby, but they haven't let her mature in the way they have DiNozzo ... what was cute 10 years ago is getting a little old ... McGee is McGee and Palmer is Palmer , can't imagine the show without them now ... I've liked each of the female leads for different reasons, no favorites ... my favorite characters are Ducky and DiNozzo and the credit for that goes as much to the writers as the actors (with Ducky, the dialog, with DiNozzo the maturing) ... I've been watching the early episodes lately and I notice that Gibbs smiled a lot more in the early ones ... now it seems he's almost always in the same mood - touchy ... I've always liked Mark Harmon, but Gibbs is starting to wear on me ... love Tobias .... never really warmed to Vance ... my two cents on a great show

Best Show Ever. Great Writers & Actors
I have watched all of the episodes countless times. There are truly wonderful actors in it: among the best. I'm over 60, so I've seen thousands of movies and shows and the actors in them. Gibbs and Tony (Mark Harmmond & Michael Weatherly) are stellar actors. Gibbs plays a very introverted character who wears a poker face at all times: very stoic. It's very difficult to play a character like that, and still convey emotion & thoughts, but Mark Hammond pulls it off Throughout the show, you learn of his beloved wife and daughter, who were killed by a drug dealer. It is a deep and unhealed wound, and part of the burden that he always carries with him through more than 12 seasons. At the start of season 13, he's just survived a very traumatic event; which psychologically & physically changes him. As the first episodes pass, he is different in some undefinable way; more remote and cryptic, and frankly less likable. But as season 13 goes along, you realize that his change is due to his trauma. He is still trying to deal with the recent trauma and especially his long-held burdens. Psychologically he's floundering in his attempts, which he refuses to recognize. Physically, he's also in pain all the time. Finally in the 18th episode, he helps another sniper deal with a recent traumatic event. In doing so, he begins to find a way to recover from his long-held unhealed wound.I would tell you Tony's story: Michael Weatherly's character. But it would make this review much too long. Suffice it to say that Tony travels through multiple broken hearts and problems: evolving from a rather shallow guy and class-clown, to an amazingly deep and multi-layered guy. Strong but vulnerable. This has been the most popular TV show out there, with comedy in every show, as well as the drama you expect.. You have to give it a try.

NCIS Saison 13
