Nice product.
We have just gotten these and expect them to work well with our annual fruit fly problem. We are to blame. We like to leave lots of fresh fruit out on the table for the kids. Healthy living. Except that the kids are not too fond of the little flies buzzing around. Last year I read on the net and found a partial solution using bottles filled with vinegar and fruit and using a paper cone at the top. It attracted the fruit flies in but later they could not get out and died. It was cheap and practical -- but a little gross as the dead bodies accumulated. This winter I saw these fruit trips commercially available that used the same concept but were perhaps a little more aesthetically pleasing. So I purchased them. Overall, the construction looks good and I expect that they will work just as well as my fix from last year. But time will tell.

Doesn't work with the lid on.
I had a bug problem that I was hoping would be solved by these traps. I had been using regular cups of vinegar + soap and/or other lures before I purchased these. I was hoping for something more attractive that would also limit the smell of some more pungent lures. Sadly, the lid on this product doesn't allow enough smell out to attract anything. Using the same solution that I have used to successfully trap dozens and dozens of bugs in a single application, I trapped literally ZERO bugs with this with the lid on. If i take the lid off, bugs are trapped. Not worth the money.

Caught lots of fruit flies, but didn't "trap" all of them.
Used with apple cidar viengar, it attracted and caught a large number of fruit flys within the first day. Also easy to kill the flies and clean the trap. However, a small hole in the top center of the trap allows the fruit flys to escape. I watched two flys that were "trapped" escape from this exit in a span of just 60 seconds. While the majority of flys seem to be stuck, it's not a perfect trap design.

worked immediately!
worked immediately!we put 3 traps out and I think that they caught 50 fruit flies immediately, the fruit flies were gone within 2 days. we bought some fruits with the farm box that comes, I think that they were in the fruit! also we put all the fruit in the fridge so that they would only be attracted to the traps. can't believe it worked so well! there was a slight vinegar smell initially for the first day, but then after that it wasn't an issue.

Didn't work for me...
I'm a bit confused on how this worked for people. I had zero success with this. The hole was hardly the width of a pen head, BARELY enough room for a gnat! I tried to make it bigger but that didn't work either. I decided to leave the side lock hole slightly open and also didn't have lock that way... It seems pretty solid but I didn't have success with this. I had more success with an open bowl with acv, soap and cherries in it.

It works but only if you use the right bait
Fruit flies have evolved to recognize the shape and appearance of, well, fruit, and bananas are your weapon of choice here. All it takes is a significant bit of banana placed in the middle, with maybe a bit of the peel around it for show, and the pests are all over it. If you really want to make sure you kill the pests, add a small pool of vinegar around the banana bait itself and a drop of soap on both sides. The fruit flies will drown in droves.

Great if you have the right recipe!
We had a big fly problem with the harvest of my garden and fruit trees. We tried several potions to try to capture the menacing flies...always our traps were empty.Whining to a friend she told me to try: Cider vinegar, red wine and a drop of dish detergent. BAM!! We were fly free in 48 hrs. These traps are small and do a good job of locking in the funky smell from the bait juice.

Far Inferior
The RED Fruit Fly trap by by Sterling Int'l is FAR superior catching 40 times as any flys! Problem, I think is two fold: color should be red, AND with ONLY one hole to go in how could it be as effective as one with FIFTEEN (15) HOLES.. plus the holes are on the dome top versus ONE holedown in a "valley!!

Complete waste of money. I have still got fruit flies. I have a fly fix (x3) with fruit in it and no fruit flies in it. Clearly the flies are smarter than we think!! Don't bother with this product. If I could send it back I would but unfortunately I've opened it and used it
