Doesn't make the cut: word fluffing
I guess Meera Lester never met an adjective or adverb she didn't like. This isn't a long story but you could cut at least one-third of it away with all the unnecessary word fluffing. You have to read that not only is "so-and-so was wearing a print sundress" but that it's a blue-green (obviously very important - NOT) sundress. We now know the complete contents of Abby's makeup box. Every time the Heroine got dressed we learned what color lip gloss and pearlescent powder she chooses to wear today, as opposed to the different color lip gloss and powder she wore yesterday.Because those are very critical details in a murder mystery......not!The love interests were like a bad replay of the Syfy TV series "Haven". I honestly found Philippe somewhat smarmy and uninteresting rather than romantic and melancholy. The murder mystery was shallow and the solution was clearly not very important, since it was telegraphed way in advance - and in case you missed the hint the first time, it gets repeated different ways, none of them subtle, a number of times through to the ending.Abby's alternately wounded by a previous love interest who walked out on her, but apparently easily convinces herself into sexual interest with any reasonably good looking man who looks into her eyes earnestly. Bleccchh. No wonder the dog doesn't obey her. She's a dimwit, for all her vaunted detecting skills. Stick with the chickens, Abby, they're more your speed.

Good book
I liked this book. It kept my interest for the most part. It was easy to guess the killer. I didn't like the phrases in French with no translation. Some were able to be figured out but not all.

Meera Lester’s A Beeline to Murder
An enjoyable well plotted murder with an array ofcreative, well drawn, colorful characters. The setting of the farmette was a perfect place forthe main character to live. The vivid description madethe reader feel as if they were there. The beginning of each chapter related wisdom fromthe Henny Penney Farmers Almanac. The end of eachchapter had either ways to farm the bees, the flowersneeded to attract the bees, the type of honey each beeproduced or mouthwatering recipes.Besides the bees, the farmers had fruit trees, vegetablesand chickens plus Houndini the crowing rooster.Sugar who was the deceased chef's dog, that Abby, former police officer turned farmer adopted addedflavor to the story.

Romance, cookbook, farm almanac... not much of a mystery.
This book tried to be too many things, and didn’t really succeed at any. I saw it mostly as being a bee keeping manual. There’s nothing wrong with that. I appreciate the insights. But the book was billed a mystery.... and it’s not much of a mystery. I figured out who the killer was very early on. I didn’t find the characters relatable. I especially had trouble with Phillipe, though I did enjoy reading some French. I totally skipped all the recipes, even though I’m an avid cook. They just don’t belong in a mystery novel and did nothing to further the story. One good thing... when skipping recipes and almanac wisdom at the beginning and end of each chapter, the story was blessedly short. This is a totally undemanding novel, fluffy.

An enjoyable murder mystery. A sweet story and an interesting who done it. Great characters who made the murder mystery such a good story.

This is a pleasant book to read. The characters are people I'd like to meet. The story gets exciting at times and has a few twists that I enjoyed.
