To be polished is to have a smooth finish which enhances the look of an item, prevents contamination, removes oxidation, creates a reflective surface, and prevents corrosion. To have a chamfered end is to have a symmetrical sloping surface at the edge or corner. C2 carbide grade is used on drill bits (end mills, other tools, etc.) to cut cast iron and certain non-ferrous materials (brass, aluminum, etc.). C2 is on the soft end of the carbide scale. It's needed for cast iron and brass because of the way the material "breaks" instead of shears. The harder carbides will chip or crack on cast iron.
