Not your average romance, READ only if you can stomach torture.
I am going to say that I don't read erotica very often and I certainly don't like S &M books at all. But I do have a lower degree in Psychology, this book will take anyone interested in Psychology on a total ride. Have you ever had a client that was totally manipulated by someone else with no physical contact (no beatings or strikings) a person who total psychological personality is based on the wants and needs of someone else. This book is total mind F#$* It is hard to imagine someone being so psychologically manipulated that they display Stockholm syndrome, that they seem to enjoy the sickness of someone else.I don't know that I actually like this book but the writing of the Author is amazing, it brings you on a journey into the world of total manipulation. No spoiler here, but her favorite food is first used as a reward later turning into a punishment. The guy that kidnapped Emily Vargus, a Psychology Major is known only as "Master" he turns her world up side down, making her dependent on him for all comforts in the world she lives in. "Master" learns everything about Emily prior to kidnapping her and turning her psychie on it's head. She becomes comforted only by the things he provided for her. But her wants and needs become dependent on him. She no longer holds her own destiny in her own hands, he holds everything. He eventually after much psychological torture gets her to come to his BDSM room where he enjoys whipping her, he never talks to her, just offering certain rewards for certain behavior. She then enjoys getting whipped in order to receive the best reward, human touch in the form of sexual pleasure. It's a short few hour read but Wow, really puts into perspective what can happen if one is totally absolutely controlled by someone else. It brings the reader through the entire process until you are part of the story and you can get caught up in hoping for, cheering for and then having pity on the characters in the book. I went through a gammet of emotions: anger, being dumfounded, excited that Emily may escape, arousal, pain, and hatred and some love. This book is awesome but not for your average reader, it will promoted fear, rage and pity in the average person. It is not a read for the faint of heart. I think this is one of those books that you will either love or hate, but sometimes even a book you hate you can't put down because the story line is so good.***I am grateful to have received this product for a discounted rate in exchange for my personal, honest, unbiased and non-compensated review. Please if you found this review helpful in making your decisions, please press the “Yes” button below.

Strong story until the end. Suspend disbelief and take the plunge
This was an odd little story. A woman, held captive by a mute billionaire is starved for both food and ultimately companionship until she agrees to satisfy her kidnapper's sexual demands. She becomes so dependent on him ( Stockholm syndrome) that when in a surprise move he releases her, she has to be forced to leave. And then it gets strange! Spoiler alert.(this is relevant only if you haven't read Kitty Thomas before). She has become so dependent on her abuser that she is unable to return to her old life. After a time she returns to him, begging him to take her back. He does eventually. This is a recurring theme in books by this author, so you may well recognize the plot.Writing quality is good and if you're in the mood for a dark fantasy with some twists at the end, this book may be for you.Caution- The ending is kind of dumb, although as previously noted it is a variation on a recurring theme in this author's work, and cost this otherwise fine effort a star. Overall, worth reading but you may chuck the kindle at a wall when you finish it.

Wish it was darker and held my attention more...
I had high hopes for this one, but I just didn't love it (sorry!!).The beginning, got my attention. It starts with Emily already being held captive. My biggest issue? Once you get past the first third of the book, the rest just fell flat for me. Chicken soup is supposed to be a punishment, but why does she get it in the beginning as her first meal? The real punishment is the cell she lives in after first being taken. It came across more as Dom/sub relationship that I completely forgot that she was taken against her will to start with. There are parts of captive type books where you see the person being held 'break down'. She seeks his comfort right from the start. There isn't a sense of urgency for her to escape. She tries once and makes such a stupid mistake.... I was just disappointed.Comfort Food skips ahead, a lot. The best parts of this were the journal entries from his POV. I would have loved more of that... just a little more into his head.If this is your first 'dark' read, then I'd say to give it a try. If not, you might be expecting a certain level of gritty, heaviness that isn't in this one.I did like Kitty's writing style. So, although this one wasn't for me, I would definitely read more from her in the future.

Comfort Food or Comforted and Loved? Can it be Stockholm Syndrome or an entirely different situation here? One click to find out
My first Kitty Thomas book and it more than Wowed me, it touched me! OMG Chicken Noodle soup, I will say no more but I will never be able to eat this soup as just a soothing warm cup of soup without thinking of Emily! This Book is DARK and if you are unsure what it is then be prepared for something very very different in a Stockholm Syndrome kind of way! Yes this book is Dark but it is also mysterious and suspenseful! And I loved it. I liked that is told in first person and you honestly from time to time don't know what the heck is happening in time, but major changes are happening to Emily she has been kidnapped and her captor is not giving in to her, he will not even speak to her, she must do what he says. Do you think you could, if you were help hostage what would you do to free yourself and in the end if your life doesn't seem as grandeur as you once thought, maybe chicken noodle soup was just the Comfort that you needed!I loved this book, the suspense, the dark...heck all of it. But if you are scared than take a look at some of Kitty's other work and start of Slow because this book is most def not for the faint of heart for sure. I like a dark read though, I like to read a wide range of books! So of course now I want to read every single Kitty Thomas book that is out! I have several on my Kindle to read but wanted to give my review I read this about a year ago so finally doing my due justice to this wonderful Author as she certainly deserves not only my Review but a pat on the back for how she writes and maybe ever a little chicken noodle soup herself! Loved it Kitty and thank you for writing books!

Thought Provoking
This was such an odd book, lol.It wasn’t the usual kidnap/Stokholm Syndrom story.Yes, it had some BDSM and love scenes in it, and yes she was held against her will but somehow, it wasn’t all that dark or erotic.I can’t make up my mind if it was more thought-provoking or just a little slow and uneventful.EMILYWell, from the very begining I had a very clear picture of this woman and how she sounded.I knew she was intelligent, well educated and logical. Your average 30-something woman. She wakes up tied to a chair and blindfolded. Her captor enters and unties her but doesn’t speak,At all. That in its self would terrify me. My mind would play absolute havoc with me more than anything he could think up to do to me.Over the next few weeks, she goes through the biggest mind freak ever. Not only does he not speak to her but he makes it so that everything he does do to her, is something she askes for as she comes undone and breaks with a kind of sensory deprivation. It is amazing what you can grow to get used to or adapt to.MASTERThere is not an awful lot I can actually say about him as we see almost nothing from his point of view. He’s an extremely attractive, physically fit man with a lot of wealth. And for reasons you don’t find out until near the end, he has taken this poor woman to break her down and condition her.He is a patient, intelligent and determined man, y’all. It drove me crazy trying to figure out what he wanted, lol. I wouldn’t last 24 hours in the situation Emily was in.FINAL THOUGHTS on COMFORT FOOD by Kitty ThomasThis is a really interesting read for those of us that are fascinated by human psychology and what it takes to break and then build up a person.Yes, it’s a very thought-provoking book.Still not sure how I feel about it now that it’s over though.3.5 Stars

Wow – This book was intense. Take notice of the warnings
“the most twisted form of psychological conditioning, I’ve ever read . . . will stick in your brain for days after you read”Really well written it tells the story of Emily who is basically kidnapped and left in a room bare of essentials, not even a bed. She is subjected to silence and no human contact by the man who kidnapped her, he knows what she craves and he takes pleasure in denying her.He doesn’t talk but everything is done by a thought or an action. He brings Emily chicken noodle soup and crackers every day.He does nothing without her permission, he doesn’t force her but rewards her for her “good” behavior with a nice room full of beautiful things. He is messing with her mind, her thoughts, her feelings. Poor Emily really has no choice but to comply. This book is not for the faint hearted, there is humiliation, BDSM and extreme sexual situations, but for some reason I really couldn’t hate her kidnapper. It is a strange feeling to feel some sort of compassion for this man.Told from Emily’s perspective except for the sexual scene’s and they are told from a third perceptive, I read this in nearly one sitting. Addictive and thoroughly enjoyable, this book is one of those books that you are thinking about for hours after and turning things over in your mind. Loved loved the ending and it was totally unexpected, at least for me. A thoroughly recommended read !!!The only complaint I have Is that just once I would like to see these women fight back.Extreme situation I know, but this man kidnapped her, Stockholm Syndrome at it’s worse.

A middle of the road dark romance read.
I am a fan of dark romance so when I spotted this on Amazon grabbed it straight away. This will be one of those books you either like or you don't and I found it a bit different to a lot of dark romance that I have read. You don't want to read dark romance unless you are prepared to read some difficult scenes and be faced with uncomfortable taboos. Comfort Food is no exception to that - abduction, captivity, psychological trauma and the breaking down of a person leading to strong sexual scenes of BDSM. This is not one you buy your Grandma for her birthday. If you like this genre of book you might very well enjoy this.Emily Vargas has been taken captive. As part of his conditioning methods, her captor refuses to speak to her, knowing how much she craves human contact. He's far too beautiful to be a monster. Combined with his lack of violence toward her, this has her walking a fine line at the edge of sanity.Told in the first person from Emily's perspective, Comfort Food explores what happens when all expectations of pleasure and pain are turned upside down, as whips become comfort and chicken soup becomes punishment. The book tackles Stockholm Syndrome and like a lot of dark romance has Emily confused over mixed feelings towards her captor and tormentor. Where I think this book lacked in comparison to other dark romance I have loved is that there was no true love or feelings that infiltrated the plot which often softens the reader towards the abductor. I didn't really connect with either of the main players in this novel either, I certainly didn't grow to like the abductor (like I have in other books).I would say this is middle of the road for this genre, it's not bad by any means but I have read much better. 3 stars from me for Comfort Food.

Deliciously Dark and Twisted
Comfort Food is a thoroughly well written, thought provoking, mind-blowing story. It introduced me to a whole new world of dark erotica and it really made me appreciate a good mind f*ck. This book really forced me to challenge my preconceptions of the master/ slave dynamic. It also challenges the socially acceptable reactions of victims of abuse and I found this fascinating. The insights into the thought processes and motivations of the characters really made this book believable and relatable. Despite the grim and sometimes uncomfortable content, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I'm unafraid to say that I was genuinely satisfied at the outcome of the story. While the main character is, in the end, fully a product of her conditioning, she has an admirable bravery. The characters in this book are very honest and real. This book left a great impression on me and I've read it many times since it was first purchased.Overall, very thought provoking and superbly written
