Excellent printer, brilliant upgrade from an older HP model!
The media could not be loaded. Excellent printer, a brilliant upgrade from our old 2600 series HP printer.I’ve seen a lot of negative reviews for this printer, and to be honest, I don’t understand why. I completely agree that HP printers aren’t always the most user friendly of the easiest to set up - see our old 2600 series HP printer for reference, which was a bit of a nightmare, and in the end refused to feed paper through it, so we had to bin the whole printer - but this one is a dream to set up and use.Our experience with this printer, so far, couldn’t be more positive. From removal of the printer from the box to full set up, took a total of about 20 minutes or so. Set up can be completed in its entirety from the touch panel on the front of the printer - the only thing you need to use your phone or tablet for is to set up the HP+, and redeem the free Instant Ink trial. I already had the HP Smart app from my previous printer, and already had an Instant Ink account set up - the app recognised this printer as a new printer straight away, and guided me through the last of the set up process easily on my phone. The app asked if I wanted to set this up on my existing HP account as a replacement to my old printer, or to run alongside the old printer. Obviously I chose replacement, as we’ve binned the old printer. From there it was plain sailing, and we were up and printing within minutes. As my router details were all saved in the app from the previous printer installation, I could literally use all the details already saved to set this one up, although worst case scenario, if you were setting up a brand new printer on a brand new HP account, all you’d have to do is put in your details, a payment method for the Instant Ink (I use PayPal, although you can also use your bank or a card) and find your internet connection from the list and put in the router password, just the same as installing anything else that requires internet access. Job done. This has built in security features which protect the printer and the Wi-Fi connection it’s on, which is excellent. The touchscreen panel on the front of the printer is fully functional, tells you the status of the printer and gives you all the options (print, scan, copy, settings etc). You don’t actually need to use the HP to print at all. My partner doesn’t even have it installed on his Android phone, and he was the first one to print anything out of the printer. I have an iPhone (and iPad), and I can print straight from the Photo Gallery or whatever document I’m using, no need to go in to the HP app. The HP app is great for fine tuning and tweaking settings etc though. When installing it’s worth mentioning that you need to remove the orange tab and outside wrap from the ink cartridges and the orange plastic bung things on the bottom of the cartridges before you put them in the printer. They install easily inside the printer though, and the stickers above the cartridge seating area clearly tell you which coloured cartridge goes where. There are 4 separate cartridges for this printer. The printer does come with a full set of starter cartridges which are Instant Ink compatible. The touchscreen also tells you where to load the paper in if you’re stuck with where it goes - which is the drawer at the bottom of the printer. The printed documents come out just above this drawer. The paper feeder is ingenuous and much better than the old school top loading printers. This printer makes it really easy to line the paper up correctly and it has a really large capacity for spare sheets, we just put a generous sheaf of paper in from the packet, must have been at least 30-40 sheets, it’s had no problem with us putting that amount of sheets in and feeds them in fine from the tray. Our old 2600 series wouldn’t take even 10 sheets before it started to jam up and sheets would get stuck. This printer seems fine with the generic £5 paper pack paper so far, our old one didn’t like the same paper at all.Print quality I’ve found to be excellent so far. As you can see from my video example, it prints a full colour photo quickly and efficiently, makes little noise (I mean printers aren’t the quietest of machines by any stretch of the imagination, but this one is one of the quieter ones I’ve used), and the end print is photo quality. The example image of my pooch was printed in normal quality, on cheap generic paper, from an iPhone photo - and it’s come out looking amazing. With photo paper, in the best print quality setting, you could definitely get something you could frame and give as a present. Next year when my children have their school photos done, I’m just going to buy access to the image and print them on photo paper from this printer, which will save me £££s.I’m no tech genius, but it’s actually got to the point now, certainly with this printer anyway, where set up is so quick and easy that most could manage it with no trouble. The set up process honestly has come on leaps and bounds from how complicated and awkward it used to be.In summation, this is a great printer, easy to set up, great quality, quick prints, quiet and efficient, and not too obtrusive at all. When I first took it out of the box I was worried it wouldn’t fit in to our specially built printer cubby hole in the understairs cupboard, but in reality it’s tucked in there nicely, and doesn’t have a much bigger footprint than the 2600 series did. This would be a perfect small office printer, if anything it seems a bit more dynamic than my home user needs would ever really require! If you’re on the fence, go ahead and buy it, you won’t be disappointed :)

Great home office printer
My old HP printer was well overdue an upgrade and this one seemed ideal. The HP+ subscription helped seal the deal, as never running out of ink and extended warranty is a bonus. It was slightly larger than I expected when I turned up, but that’s because I was used to a compact all in one. Whereas this is more for the home office situation. The setup was easy, but did take a short while, as setting up the HP+ part needed a lot of extra information. But now that it’s setup it will be easy when this one gets replaced next. The Smart Print feature is great, and makes it easy to print from anywhere from any device. The ink top up pack came through the post quite quick too. The speed of print is much faster than my old one, so that gets a massive thumbs up too! Overall, I’m really happy with this printer and would certainly class it as a great home office printer, rather than occasional personal printer

Good value printer
Good but not great printer. Bought after my previous HP office jet pro broke. Not the best quality printers as can be plasticky and flimsy but does the job.Bought this one because I wanted an automatic document feeder for scanning. Scanning works well.Printing can be a bit slow but OK.The tip of the paper tray can be a bit fiddly. Also like the HP ink subscription.

Superb All Round Printer
I am currently studying online for my Masters in Creative Writing so you can imagine the quantity of printing needed. Not quite novel-sized but I definitely print on a daily basis. I was more than happy to replace my 15 year old printer, of the same make.I set up the printer a couple of weeks ago following the easy to follow instructions. I experienced one blip but that really is me and machines. Initially the printer didn’t synch with my smart phone but latched on straightaway from my laptop, so no real issues.I love the Bluetooth capacity. It is great to select the print option on my mobile and to see the printer spring into action. I have done straightforward A4 printing which includes the handy (and paper economic and green) double-sided feature and scanning.I have joined the 6 months free trial option and chosen the 100 pages a month for £3.49. With the free 6 months trial I won’t actually pay anything until January next year. During this trial period I can print up to 700 pages, each month, without any charges. This is great because I am currently working on my dissertation which is due in two months time. After this I will be editing my father’s life story so those 700 pages each month could be reached.I set up and signed up to the HP Smart Account. Within about a week my new set of print ink cartridges were delivered smoothly, to my safe place. Fantastic service and no chance of running out of ink which I can assure you is not an option when tackling a Masters postgraduate qualification. The HP ink service caters for returning used ink cartridges for recycling. After the six months free trial I can always change the plan to 50 sheets a month for £1.99. Lower users can pay 99p per month for 15 sheets and really high users can print 1,500 sheets a month for £44.99. My plan allows for a roll over of up to 300 unused pages so holidays aren’t an issue.I am happy with this printer and scanner.

Really great value
I get some of the other reviews regarding build quality but as I am an occasional personal user this item is perfect. Setup is a little arduous but once it is connected the app is fantastic. I love the automatic ink fulfilment system and with the free 7 months has made the printer even more value for money. I have one small niggle, I would have preferred it to sleep when not used and wake up when sent a print command. However I think because it needs to constantly be available to send ink and usage information back to HP it can’t be switched off. I can live with that. I was amazed at the print quality too - love it!
