Superbly recorded my road trip (and more)
NOTE: Bought this DX2 dash cam solely to capture our road trip while driving out west visiting several National Parks. So this review is tailored to that specific use of the camera.Verdict: But for one devastating glitch (discussed below), this camera excelled in all aspects of use. I didn't use the secondary rear view camera because of the extra card space the files would consume. Next trip, I intend on bringing more SD cards so I will be able to try it out then.MOUNTINGI set up the DX2 in our rental SUV to the rearview mirror using a ArmorTek Snake Mount. I LOVE this mount. It allowed me to easily position the camera in any direction in a snap. Sometimes I wanted to quickly turn the camera to look outside the side windows. No problem. Sometimes I wanted to turn the camera on us. No problem. I could raise and lower the camera at will. No problem. Just be sure to tighten the pivot screw as the camera would sometimes slightly drop out of position when the screw wasn't tight enough.CUSTOMER SERVICESpeaking of the SnakeMount, let me now praise the stellar customer service of KDLinks. The SnakeMount didn't come with a ball bearing adapter to fit the DX2. I fretted over not being able to use it. So I emailed KDLinks, told them my problem, and asked if I could buy one from them (I didn't realize at the time that it easily unscrews from the suction cup mount). Without hesitation, they simply sent me one. Quickly too. Man. Gotta love a company that is actually responsive. They promptly responded to any questions I had. With this superb customer service, I prayed the camera would work out so I wouldn't have to leave a negative review.SD CARDI bought a 128GB Samsung EVO+ card to use in this camera. I formatted it to FAT32. The card worked without fail.VIDEOVideo was crisp and clear. The wide field of view was ideal with no distracting fish eye effect. As the sun was bright, I used the included polarized lens filter for the entire trip. I had no problems with the outcome. I do wish there was a zoom feature. I would have liked to have zoomed beyond the dashboard to remove it from view. Or the ability to zoom in on a particular object.AUDIOWe wanted a camera that recorded audio so we could capture our in-car conversations along the journey. Audio was superb. It picked up our conversations clearly. Can't tell you how much I enjoy listening to our conversations after the trip is over; it really adds life to the videos. There is what appears to be static on some recordings but I think it might actually be the wind the microphone picked up. It was quite windy some days. I think it was the wind because once we start talking or the music plays, the static stops. The music we played in the car plays back almost as clear as heard in person. By the way, having the car music playing is a delightful backdrop while watching the play back of our videos. It acts as a soundtrack for the video. I love that. Next trip I will be sure to turn up the music even louder, particularly to drown out the wind.MOTION SENSOROkay, onto to the bad, devastating part. We lost about two days of video. I didn't discover this until I got back home and was reviewing the files. The camera loop feature recorded over our first two days when the SD card was full.Of course, I knew going in about the loop feature and planned for that by bringing a RavPower Filehub and external drive to copy the files to free up card space. I knew how much recording time I had on the card and I transferred files off the card before time was up (or so I thought). But what I didn't know was the camera was recording while we weren't in the car. During the day, at night, every time it was activated by motion.Let me tell you, the motion sensor works. Very, very well. Everything seemed to activate the camera. People walking by, birds, car lights, reflections of activity in hotel windows, trees blowing, etc. Heck, I think sometimes the wind itself activated it. So unbeknownst to me, my card was filling up much, much, much faster. I had no idea it was doing all of this extra recording. By the time I copied my files several days into the trip, it was too late. The first two days had already been recorded over. I lost our gorgeous drive and car conversations from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon. I am crushed to lose such precious mementos of our journey.I am particularly angry because I specifically turned the motion detection setting off but somehow it turned itself back on or it simply didn't deactivate it. I won't ding a star because perhaps it was something I did. Maybe I accidentally turned the motion setting back on. I don't know. I should have double-checked the settings right before I used it. Also, I would have turned off the loop feature but I didn't know if the camera would continuously record on its own so I left it on. The manual wasn't clear and I didn't want to take a chance on it not recording autonomously. I will test that for future use.ADVICESeveral things I will do differently. One, I will always unplug the camera when leaving the car. No more accidental motion activated recordings. Of course, I will have to remember to plug it back in, but that won't be a problem as before every ride I habitually checked the positioning of the camera to ensure it was aligned properly. Two, no matter how tired or busy, I will always copy videos files to my external drive every day. That way any glitch or error will only affect that days worth of video, as any previous days would be already be safe on external drive.Third, I will always do a cursory review of files each day. If I had done that I would have seen the extra recordings and fixed the problem. I am now so paranoid, I might even get a little laptop to bring next time so I can view the files each day and correct whatever I need to. No more heartbreaking surprises when I get back home. Yes, you can your videos on this camera but viewing on a large screen makes it much easier. On my laptop back home, just by scanning the thumbnails of the files I saw in an instant something was wrong.I also recommend bringing double the SD cards you think you will need. With two SD cards, I could have swapped them each day to copy the one from the previous day while we were driving in the car. That way I won't have to wait to do it in the hotel when I might not feel like it after a long day.If you don't bring a laptop, get a RavPower Filehub and an external drive to copy your files. The RavPower Filehub is its own power source so you don't need an outlet to use it, only to recharge it. Simply insert your SD card and plug in your external drive to it. An app on your phone controls it. I used the app AirStor, but RavPower has its own apps too. Select your files to copy and let it run. Easy peasy. I think it took about an hour to copy 32 GB. So with my full 128 GB dashcam card, I started it and went to bed. It was done when we woke up. The Filehub works perfectly but isn't the fastest thing going.Another recommendation: electrical tape. With a rental car you can't permanently tuck in the cable like you can in your own car. I used it to tape down the cable on the mirror and where I couldn't easily tuck it. The black tape blended in well with the black interior (we specifically requested an SUV with black interior for this reason). It was easy to remove when we turned the car back in without damaging or leaving residue.I am going on small road trip in the fall and perhaps another big two week trip next year. Bringing this dash cam will be as mandatory as my plane ticket. Maybe after all my road trips are over, I will think about setting up the camera in my car. But honestly, I will likely save it for my special road trips. If I did decide to put one in my car, I would buy another DX2 without hesitation.

Great Customer Service!
While the front camera is adequate, the mount is quite another story. It is entirely too loose allowing the camera to change position as the car moves. I am very disappointed with this device and would not recommend.Update: after writing my review the seller reached out to me and provided me with two replacement mounts! I haven't had a chance to attach it yet but, I can already tell that it's stiffer. I will update my review and stars once I've mounted it.Second Update: It's been approximately one month now and unfortunately, I can't recommend this product. I've reduced it to one star from three. While the seller was prompt in dealing with the malfunctioning mount, I now find that the camera stops recording intermittently. Perhaps it's the heat here in California. I don't know. The first time it shut down was at night. It turned itself on and of three times in succession. I've found myself driving along when something video-worthy happens only to realize the dash cam is not recording. This was very disappointing. For the price and from the description, I expected a much hardier device.Third Update: So it's been not quite one year since I purchased the DX2 and the product is now falling apart. It still stops recording intermittently and yesterday I took it down from the windshield to try to shut it off manually because it was continuously powering on and off, only to find that the housing has separated. It is no longer sealed and barely staying in one piece. I have now reached out to Assurant and filed a claim. They are sending me a gift card in the amount of the purchase price. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this product.

best dash cam (best affordable dash cam)
I recently purchased my second Kdlinks DX2. The first one still looks and performs as good as the day I unboxed it nearly year ago. 9-11? months back, after exhaustive study, I had bought first Kdlinks DX2. Recently decided I’d get a second dash cam, best to have one in each car, fulltime, always, no exceptions. So, I went back, revisited/ re-studied dash cams, only this time it didn’t eat up so much time; as I quickly realized couple things: 1) there are a whole bunch of people out there that could use some help, and 2) Kdlinks DX2 is still, far and away the best thing available. (I don’t normally write reviews for ANYTHING, at least not positive reviews, I don’t have the time. But here is my best advice.)I’d had dash cams before the first DX2, there are 3 of them sitting in box in the garage. I’d call them all worthless. Image quality matters. If your recorded video? is too low resolution? or too fuzzy? -- to make out license plate numbers, or police car numbers, or police badges or police officer nameplates? It’s a) likely inadmissible in court, and b) it’s worthless for your court case, or most any other “use case.” So, one of the main differences in DX2 and the crap in my garage? is IMAGE quality. DX2 produces high res images that are actually USEFUL. It’s anti-shake image stability works, I do a lot of off-roading, and the images are stable even on wash-board roads. It captures a wide-angle view, but everything is crisp and clear. It’s small enough to be unobtrusive, but the display screen big enough that I don’t have to use reading glasses (i'm 62 years). features and functions work exactly as advertised. (except you are not really limited to 32mD SD disk, you can download free utilities on your windows system that will properly format 96Mb SD disk (windows itself won’t do anything aver 32mB, because it’s FAT format, windows “expects” anything over 32mB should be NTFS, as it would be, on your PC.)). Anyway, while 32mB is enough, I sometimes use the “lock/save” video function. So far, it’s not been for any accidents or police incidents. Just video of a moose and another time, of a very bold wolf, stuff I wanted to keep. But with 96mb SD, you can save a ton of video, even in high res.2nd rear-view camera is important. I have mine mounted inside the rear window of my truck cap (Toyota tundra extended cab with a Lear cap.) Police and others can’t see the camera because of lightly tinted window. But rear camera still takes good images. When you get pulled over by a bored State Trooper? What is the excuse used 99.9% of time? “you were driving erratically”, “you were weaving excessively”, “you kept crossing over the yellow centerline”. Standard BS from bored cops that just want to check you out. With the Front and rear footage from this unit? If you were NOT weaving, not crossing centerline, it’s immediately obvious on video. And your case is thrown out of court instantly. So, I had few things in mind when I bought my first DX2. Don’t be the fall guy. Don’t pay a bunch of fees in a crash, would you could have proven it’s the other guys fault. Don’t be a victim of some rogue police offer, has an attitude left over from last person he encountered. Judge always will take word of police over yours. You better have more than your word to win the case. But don’t show something iffy or vague to judge, or DA, or jury. Show them something irrefutable - show them crisps video image. So, my recommendation is: don’t waste time and money with cheaper units. You get what you pay for. And this DX2 is worth every penny. It’s not expensive for what it does. Only way to get a better one, is get one of police type units cost 2K. so this one is perfect for me. I just yesterday bought another unit to keep one in each car full-time. And twice I have emailed their support people. Each email got an actual answer to my question. And pleasant surprise? Each of two emails got an email response in under 5 minutes.[no, I don’t work for this company, don’t own any stock in this company, don’t have any relatives that work there, just thought I’d put up my one amazon review for this year, as I actually think people are burning their money buying cheap-o dash cams. This one is opposite of cheap-o 😊]

I would recommend this because of the customer support.
Very nice unit that was easy to hook up via cigarette lighter. The front camera is excellent even during nighttime driving conditions. I'm very pleased with the quality. Initially, I had some trouble with the camera only showing an over-exposed (white-out) image half the time. I had to restart it several times to get it to go to normal exposure. But the seller was very quick to communicate and send a replacement part that worked great (the rear cam was faulty, it seems.) Now I have a working system.Always with these types of finicky newer technology, the most important thing is to have solid customer support and warranty. These guys seem to realize that, and therefore I can wholeheartedly recommend this company.I would also look into their R100 unit, as it seems even better.

Drive with confidence.
I tried 3 different dash-cams (two cheap and one mid priced) before I purchased my KDLINKS DX2 and it's the best by far, here's why.The packaging is an indication of the quality of the product inside. The instruction manual is well written and easy to understand.I like the black camera body, as it makes it very inconspicuous from outside the vehicle. The rear facing camera is a 'must have' for me on the congested roads I use, it's very reassuring to know I have overall coverage of 290 degrees around my car.The picture quality is the best I have experienced on any dash-cam to date. The on screen set-up menu is concise and extremely easy to use.A major plus for me is the inclusion of the CPL (polarising) filter, as I spend a lot of time driving in southern Europe. My previous dash-cams often failed to cope with strong sunlight, resulting in poor quality recordings, which were certainly not good enough to support an insurance claim.THE KDLINKS DX2 IS A GOOD BUY AND IT DELIVERS!

It doesn't work
Since I purchased my camera I still cannot get it to record. The red flashing light blinks indicating that it's recording but when I check the micro sd, there's nothing on it. I tried formatting the card on the camera and it didn't work. I also tried a new micro sd card and it still doesn't work. In fact, now I'm getting an error message, "Insert sd card" even though it's inserted.
