Very stable on a desk top. Bigger than most mugs. No plastic flavor.
This is a good mug for use at a desk. The base of the mug is about as wide as the mug is tall. The rubber pad on the bottom of the mug adds to stability. The mug will tip, but it takes a significant bump to tip it over. The mug is quite large, and is well suited to people who like to have a stable mug of water or ice or coffee or tea handy. Like others have pointed out, it is not insulated, so it's not a mug for those who like to keep their beverage hot or cold. If you drink your beverages as they cool to room temperature, this will work fine.I have not used the plastic lid, and probably won't use it. I don't like the flavor that plastic imparts to hot beverages. The glazed ceramic imparts no flavor. The mug is about the size of a pint beer tankard, and holding the mug by its handle feels like I'm holding a tankard. I usually grip the mug by the waist near the mouth of the mug. That's a good comfortable way to grip it.Color of the ocean blue mug is a lighter than it appears in the pictures. It's a pleasant medium blue. I chose this relatively dark color because coffee and tea will leave a brown residue on almost any surface, so having a darker color hides hard to clean discoloration from beverages.I do not know why it is called a travel mug. It won't fit in the cup holders of cars. You could rest it on a seat, but why risk spills on upholstery? It would be better on large boats than most mugs provided that the sea is calm or nearly calm. The mug is big enough to serve as a "bowl" for foods like oatmeal, yogurt, or stew.

Great mug for everyday use by anyone, but especially for Star Trek and Star Wars fans.
Great for any sci-fi fan, this mug looks like it would be at home on the set of Star Trek or Star Wars. Even if all you want is a great spill-resitant coffee mug, this one is great! The spill guard lid is easy to put on or take off (That is after I figured it out : ) ). Rotate it so that the tabs on the bottom of the lid line up with the gaps between the indents on the mug (generally 90 degrees) and rock it, lifting one tab out then the other. Also, I discovered that the indents on the neck of the mug create ridges inside that add to the spill resistance, even when the lid is off. The wide bottom makes it nearly impossible to knock over, which is fantastic for use near a computer! The bottom also has a circle of foam rubber which protects your scratch prone surfaces from damage and prevents sliding. Mine has been in continuous use for several months and still looks brand new. All-in-all a very well designed mug. I very highly recommend this mug for everyone that drinks hot beverages. (see pics)

Best Mug Ever!
I bought one of these mugs about five years ago for my husband and he has had it attached to his hand ever since. That is up until a few months ago when a car slammed on the brakes in front of him and it flew off the console onto the metal tools laying in the floorboard of his truck and broke. After all the abuse and bouncy truck trips it finally met it's demise. He was more upset about the coffee cup than the guys bad driving. I looked for another one and could not find it in black. It finally popped up on Amazon and I was tempted to buy a few (just in case), but decided against it and just got one. It lasted long enough the first time and I figure the company isn't going out of business anytime soon considering how long they've been around and the fantastic products they make. I have a lime green one and think it is the best mug you can buy. Not only is it functional, it is beautiful. I am weird about drinking out of plastic and the only mug I could find that met my criteria was this one. It's so wide it is very stable and the foam pad on the bottom makes it "stick" to most surfaces so it cannot slide around further increasing it's stability. The only problem my husband has ever had with it is the capacity. He thinks it is too small, but he would carry around a gallon of coffee if I would let him. I think it is the perfect size. Fantastic product!

Great mug; Black wrong color for coffee
I really like this mug. the base is wide enough to keep it stable and hard to knock over. The Drink-Through lid is not spill proof but works to keep liquids from splashing out when you carry it. It is a thick ceramic, so it will cool the coffee fast. I can pre-heat it with hot water if I want my coffee hotter. Usually I just microwave it. Once the mug is hot it keeps the heat in well.My only problem with the mug is that I bought the wrong color. I tend to get my early morning coffee in the gloom of predawn. The BLACK mug needs to be well lit to be able to see the coffee inside as you poor the coffee. If I have to replace the mug, I will buy a different color. (note: i did not reduce the star ranking because I bought the wrong color)

Solid 4 1/2 stars Sturdy, big, mug w/decent quality
Have only used twice so far, true to the picture and description. I've looked all over for a sturdy big mug w/ a lid for my desk, and this is really fitting the bill nicely.Pros- Big mug, very desk safe and secure, cool color, microwavable (hugh plus), dishwasher safe. Best part, when you microwave it, the handle stays completely cool. (if you've had a microwave mug that you can't touch after you heat it, you understand my joy) Even the lip part doesn't burn. Not quite sure how that works, but I enjoy it.Cons- Lid is very easy to use but not quite as high quality as the mug, but still does the job nicely. I actually like it because it will probably last much longer than a fully soft rubber lid. (this one is a hard but flexible plastic. That's all the 'cons'.Fyi- No idea how people are using this in a moving car. The bottom of the mug is huge and definitely will not fit in a normal size mug holder. (even one that's slightly bigger) Unless your cup holder is 5" wide all the way around I wouldn't do it. And really you'd need more space to account for the handle. Though it does have a rubber bottom and appears super hard to knock over on a flat service.Only reason not 5 stars is because I've only used it a few times, and the lid, while secure, is not completely leak proof when you tilt it. (to be fair, they didn't claim it was)
