Review: This stuff seems to work just fine. I didn't do an analytical, double-blind study on it's accuracy as some others here apparently have. But I would say this. This set costs as little as half as much as the same products from name brand manufacturers. And even they have detractors claiming they aren't spot on either. I think there are always naysayers. And it clearly states the product is for students in the classroom, not for atomic scientists. So for those of us who have to budget these things as one more expense of our hydro setup when we ran out of money four expenditures ago, Innovating Science is a godsend. When I have more money, maybe I'll spend it. But for now, this works for me.

**Q: What is the potassium chloride for?**
A: Potassium chloride solution is used to protect the pH meter probe. Once you use your pH meter for the first time, the tip of the probe should be immersed in a solution of potassium chloride during long periods that you don't use the meter

**Q: are these solutions NIST traceable ?**
A: Not even close.  They were off by 0.3 units. Completely worthless...

**Q: Is the electrode glass? If the electrode solution is low can you add solution to it? If so what is the electode solution?**
A: I don't believe so, it looks plastic but I don't want to tap on it or touch it as your not supposed to. By electrode fluid are your referring to the small jar of neutral? if so yes you can add more to the protective cap and store it upright. the key is to not to let it dry out

**Q: What is the shelf life for these solutions?**
A: There is a two year shelf life for the solutions in this set.

This set costs as little as half as much as the same products from name brand manufacturers. And even they have detractors claiming they aren't spot on either. I think there are always naysayers. And it clearly states the product is for students in the classroom, not for atomic scientists. So for those of us who have to budget these things as one more expense of our hydro setup when we ran out of money four expenditures ago, Innovating Science is a godsend. When I have more money, maybe I'll spend it. But for now, this works for me.

I ordered this meter to step up my game in making dry fermented sausages. Most recipes I have found give you a range of hours for fermenting with a caution to test the pH to optimize the flavor. I have been looking for a good quality portable tester and this is exactly the tool that will ensure accurate and repeatable results. The unit is able to be calibrated and the video tutorials answer a lot of questions.
