3D printer must have for projects

I use these by the bucket load, once you discover them, you won't look back. These are now my must have, anywhere that I have a part mate with screws, I use these. They're incredibly simple to design in, you just need a hole of the appropriate diameter for the insert to be pushed into. You can use a soldering iron, although with a conical tip these have a habit of gripping onto the tip and then not releasing back out, which can lead to the insert ending up in the wrong place or with the part ruined.Instead, you can buy specific tips designed for inserting these that don't have that problem, you'll need a reasonably decent soldering iron that has swappable tips, but they're also easy to come by.These particular inserts have a smaller neck one side, which makes them much easier to precisely locate because that end will fit inside your hole snugly, ensuring that the insert is in the correct place and that it cannot move as you start the insertion. It takes a couple of seconds of heat and a small amount of force to sink the insert into the plastic, and the double knurl, each in an opposing angle means that the thread becomes completely part of the assembly, the threaded insert is never going to come out.No more designing in supports for captive nuts or just screwing into plastic.

The small size in NOT M3 they are M2 the large are M3

I have bought the large size from here before and they are M3 as advertised however I had a project that needed a smaller depth insert so I ordered the small size but when they arrived I found that they were actually M2 so a bit awkward as had to order M2 screws, hopefully the seller will update description to match items. Having said that both the small(M2) and the large(M3) are good quality and good price so I would recommend them if you are in the market for some inserts, if you look at my picture you will see the small (M2) insert in the middle with the large (M3) insert on the right and a M3 screw on the left for comparison.

The 'Small' size is M2, not M3 as advertised

Shows you should always look at every scrap of info before ordering. I ordered one pack each of Large and Small. I assumed that the Small was just for use with thinner material. I should have looked at the dimensioned image in more detail; it's obvious that a 3.5mm dia over knurls could not possibly have an M3 (3mm OD) thread. It is in fact an M2 (2mm OD) thread. I've kept the product as I will find a use for it, but the seller should correct their description to reflect the smaller thread size. Note that M2 screws are not as common as M3.

Works well

Have used a load of these now in 3d printed items and they work well, push in with a hot soldering iron into a slightly smaller hole and they go in easy enough and more important stay there.

Great for my 3D prints

Perfect for 3D prints or I guess any other projects that these would be used in, no issues with threading and good driving in.
