I just received mine and I think it has been opened and used some!** A: Have to say I would send it back , not only for lack of contents, but also because it is hands down some of the worst Chamois butter I have ever used. But to answer your original question. I as well received a jar that looked half empty. The reason why is the contenst and ingredients, are more water than product, so in the settling and moving and in the shipping process some of the water will evaporate, especially if it's say left in a transport vehicle, or on porch. Try the euro style original chamois butter. It has a cooling sensation that helps with the nerve endings around the private and most delicate parts of your anatomy. I went to Doc'sbrand just to try, and it sat in my cubbie for a year and hardened up, I ended up throwing it out . Hope this helps!! **Q: Has anyone tried this for shoes that rub or breaking in new shoes?** A: Lately I've been running much more than biking. I ALWAYS put this on my toes, the balls of my feet, and my bunion :(. It works just as well at protecting my feet from my shoes as it does my butt from my saddle. I highly recommend you try it if you need some rub protection.As for breaking in shoes, I don't have a lot of experience in general, and none at all with using this product to help the process. Yes, I would get a sore rear end, and occasional saddle sores after too many hours in the saddle, but was blessed with a comfortable Selle Italia Turbo (leather) saddle, simple chamois padded shorts, and a general high tolerance of discomfort/pain. Probably did not hurt to be 50 pounds lighter in those days, too. Regardless of the listed real, or otherwise, reasons for not using chamois cream, other than ignorance, my rear end is not quite so forgiving of long rides as it used to be.I have tried a few brands, although not exhaustively so. Gooch Guard was my preferred brand until giving the Doc’s brand a try. Gooch Guard works fine enough, and no real complaints about it, but I find the Doc’s brand to be a step up in function. It is thick, almost noxema like in consistency, with a pleasant tea tree scent to it, and water soluble. I apply it to my skin and not the chamois, figuring that way I can be sure to get it where I know irritation exists (or will). I use a good size dollop, bigger than an almond, and smaller than a walnut. Then I slip on my shorts, which is currently a mix of Pearl Izumi, Endura, Craft, Black Bibs, and Assos, in order of increasing preference/comfort. Assos is a world apart, comfort and price-wise, but worth it, as an aside.The cream lasts and does help with preventing irritation. In the heat of summer, irritation cannot be avoided, but using Doc’s appears to significantly reduce irritation. Most of my rides are 1.5-2 hours in duration, and nothing like the day long affairs of my younger days, so I cannot really comment on longer rides, but it works for me. When I do get a sore, the cream helps to noticeably dampen the irritation.The container is quite large and a definite value when compared to other offerings. I like that it contains witch hazel, one of my favorite remedies for skin irritation.Highly recommended. However the consistency was too think and you had to heat up a little in your hand before applying so it would stick. On a whim I tried it again and have been meaning to write a well deserved review because they clearly have made a much better chamois cream. Now it is like shaving cream but maybe a little thicker, very easy to apply compared to previous product.
