Hercules: The Legendary Journeys: Season 1

I hadn't watched this when it first came out. It was the golden age of syndicated television, and would set the stage for the coming fantasy genre revolution. In fact, many of the people who worked on Hercules would go on to work on Lord of the Rings, Narnia, then back to television with Legend of the Seeker.Hercules, even in its day, was a throwback to fun, weekly adventures. A bit campy, and not always concerned with continuous or serious storylines, yet it was an enjoyable escape. In our era, where every show doesn't know how to be anything but dark, dreary and overly mature, it is no wonder people are still watching Hercules nearly thirty years after it premiered.Keep an eye out for early appearances of now familiar stars, or the habit of recasting the same actors in different roles. You'll see the introduction of Xena in three episodes in the first season, though not in great detail (her character wasn't originally meant to survive). She would get her own show in the same universe, though all her circus flipping through the air and other stuff made things too silly at times.Sure, the special effects sometimes show their age, but they managed to accomplish a lot on a tv budget (and these are the people who would eventually do the f/x for Lord of the Rings). The set designers and costumers built a convincing world (though many interesting costume choices). Features a culturally diverse cast that was certainly not historic for ancient Greece, yet felt organic and not forced (and they did it long before anyone else).It's funny how many adults say they watched this when they were kids. Not really for young kids, yet it didn't go overboard with adult references. It certainly wasn't afraid to highlight its beautiful women either. So if you want fun tv again, check out Hercules (and see if you can find the hard-to-find tv movies).

I love re-watching this show, just wish the other seasons were available. Please make the rest of this available.

There need to be a wishlist on Amazon prime for tv shows and movie. I love Kevin Sorbo and Kevin Smith. I grew up with this show back in the '90s, it's still extremely popular in Europe. I used to watch it in Greece, the last time I went there to visit my family out there, but Only season one.. it does no justice to the show. It's been years Amazon's only had season 1 come already... I'm waiting and so are others

Received my Season 1 DVDs quick and well packaged. The DVD case was not in plastic covering (I can't remember if I bought used or new). But everything works except for 1 problem. One of the discs had a huge palm print on the disc. The "print" was thick enough, that the disc wouldn't play. I did clean it and got most of it off (you can still see a faint print on the disc). The disc now plays. So we're good now.

I was pleased to see the re-releases of Season One of Hercules & Xena, and I've added them both to my collection.However, in the case of Season 1 of Hercules, there are some elements to consider in making the purchase of this re-release.Pros: The episodes of Season 1 are in great shape, and well presented. Plus, these DVDs also have captioning for the hard of hearing. This feature was absent in the original Anchor Bay release. Plus, the packaging is also a lot smaller than the Anchor Bay release - a standard size DVD case, with multiple discs inside.Cons: Unfortunately, this Season 1 release contains only the 13 episodes of Season 1, and none of the 5 movies which preceded them as part of Season 1.The other cons, although this is more due to Universal/Anchor Bay (whichever), there is no separate product of the five movies. There is a DVD with just the first two movies, and the Hercules action pack only has the first two movies, along with the three episodes from Season 1 which introduced Xena, the animated Hercules & Xena film, and the Young Hercules movie.A plea to Universal: Release the five films in a separate product if necessary, but please re-release them. And release the full Young Hercules series. It's a great series that deserves equal exposure to Hercules and Xena.

This is an initial review of Hurcules The Legendary Journeys Seasion 1 Region 1 Slimline DVD set. The set arrived in good condition and in a timely manner. The set includes 3 DVDs in a slimline case for a total of 13 episodes, 3 of which are The Xena Trilogy, which make up the origin story for Xena Warrior Princess. I tested Disc 1 using a HD HDMI Upscaling DVD Player connected to an HD LCD TV and was able to get near Blu Ray results using the Upscaling feature of the DVD player. The picture is sharp and the colors are vivid. The format is widescreen and stretched to fit your screen. The sound is CD quality and surround sound compatable. The DVD menus are easy to navigate. The only additional feature of the set is closed caption in English. The story is a modern interpretation of a Greek tragety about preseverance set in ancient times. This is a must for Hurcules and Xena fans alike. Battle On!

It's Kevin sorbo from Hercules perif you want a 1990's ramp through fake version of Greek mythology with some small bits of real truth in it if you want to call it that period then I highly suggest. If you want to see a lot of TNAI definitely suggest watching this period I forgot how is crazy Lee sexualized some of the characters are in this TV show

Ha persino dei contenuti speciali dvd-rom da vedere col pc. Mancano i sottotitoli, quindi se non si è fluenti in inglese o in tedesco, evitare di comprare il cofanetto...

as you know I am sure by now I am a totaly blind person, and of course the reason I like a film will not be the same reason than sosoneone that can see. so, in a way, I take the time to write this in case if another blind person read this. my number one reason to enjoy a film, is if the film have enough talking for me to be able to follow it without having to ask too much questions. and I was really happy with this one, of course I miss all the visual, but I don't care about this, I was able to follow thestory line and I was please. I have only listen to a couple of pilote film and one episode. but I enjoyed it every much. I purchase video so that when winter will be here super strong, My friend and I will have some choices to watch. I know this is not much of a review. but I guess if another blind should wonder, should I get it. the answer is yes.daniel
