very customer friendly
the device itself works fine. But the disc containing the app (Torque Pro) that was included with it was not readable. The seller refuses to send me a replacement disc or make the app available for download. They tell me that I should purchase the app through Google Play (even though I already purchased it from them) or use the crippled "lite" version that's available for free. While I understand that it's not a lot of money, it's still the seller's responsibity to provide the product as advertised.UPDATE: 6 months later.I recently tried to use the device and it didn't work. I sent email to the vendor, and they were extremely helpful in trying to diagnose the problem, and even revisited the issue I had with the unreadable disc. After trying a few things, they determined it was shot and they sent a replacement scanner and disc. They didn't even ask me to return the defective item. Really topnotch service. Not sure what happened the first time.Anyway, I'm changing my rating to 5 stars. They deserve it.

Pretty good
Doesn't operate the fastest, but it works!Comes with a very suspicious disc of software.. and I'm pretty sure that Torque is a cracked version but.. that too works. Even was able to do a 'fake test' scan on this unit and was surprised to see real chips! ELM327's aren't anything special, but there are plenty of these out there that aren't exactly what I would call reputable pieces. Dubious pieces of trash is what they are (not this one).Really, really small little device. Not even that noticeable! You COULD leave this in the OBDII port and have a tablet or something running your stats as you wish to read them. I'm sure this thing would barely drain any power off the car - but there is that possibility and with those types of scenarios; it's better to assume Murphy's Law.I don't actually use THIS device any longer; I gave it to my Father who doesn't really need it per say. But, it's always easier just to have this in the glove box or already plugged in and use your phone / tablet. I, for those interested, am running the Volo VP16 device. Has all the displays as Torque, but added benefits of a dyno, 0-60 timer, data-loggin, PWM programming, Eco stats, and more. (I'm not trying to sell anyone on that device, it is $350.00 after all)I can't say for SURE if this device is even able to be tampered with via CAN bus. But, I can tell you for absolute sure that you can NOT use this device to write data to the ECU. And being bluetooth - I highly doubt that whatsoever. Writing requires a special cable / software and a calibration ID so the engine doesn't blow up. If you're interested in THAT - check out the Tactrix unit. Made in the U.S.A.!! That will take an immense amount of homework before even thinking about plugging anything into your OBD port. And can provide an immense amount of fun and power to your vehicle :DDoes not support high-speed reading of modules... bummer. But, it will do a pretty through scan in Torque to see all of your available sensors and displays. I don't use Torque either - I use an Android scanning tool called Car Scanner Pro. Another OBD scanning app, actually better than Torque. Also has an ELM checker to notify you of anything that may be illegitimate and possibly damaging to your ECU! That translates to $1K or more to repair.6 / 10 - could be better with reading sensor data. Very small so slightly above average.

... less than $10 this scan tool working with your smart phone is as good as the plug in scan ...
For less than $10 this scan tool working with your smart phone is as good as the plug in scan tool I have been using for finding fault codes. For real time displays in an easy to read interface there is no comparison. The only question at this time is life expectancy.UPDATE:After a bad experience with a similar product from a different vendor I reordered another Sampan unit. This one took some doing to get it to connect. I was about to start the return process when it finally connected to my Kindle. This is going to be and x-mas gift and hopefully it will continue to work for the recipient.

The first one worked so well I ordered another...
The first one I ordered a few months ago worked great and it still works great. Unfortunately the second one that I ordered for another vehicle refused to connect to the ECU in multiple vehicles that the original one had previously connected to quickly every time. So I figured a bad one slips through QA every so often I will just return it and get another and be on our way. Ya....... nopity, nope nope nope that's a negative ghost rider. The third one I received will act like it was pairing with my phone when I forced it but never actually connected to anything. The original one that works properly automatically asks to pair when the Torque App recognizes it unlike the third one. So with a 66% failed rate out of the box I moved on to another manufacturer because the QA process for these sucks badly.

Use Torque, the free application.
I would have given it fives stars except that it didn't include instructions and didn't indicate that you need The Torque app to use it. The product works great with the Torque app. Once you get that app you don't need instructions. It only takes a few seconds to read the codes and display them. Very expensive units take ten times as long and more. This product provides details as to what the codes mean too. Exceptional buy!

This reader is totally worth the money!
This code reader is awesome! Ive used on 3 cars and have had no problems getting codes and even live feed data. One thing you will need to know is that its easier to just go into the google playstore and download the free app "piston". I used that app and it connected and worked flawlessly. I used it on a 2016 ford f150, a 1998 dodge caravan and a 2004 nissan titan with no issues.

Great diagnostic tool!
I'm using this OBDII reader in conjunction with the free Piston app, and it works great! Connects quickly, provides instantaneous feedback on the internals of the vehicle (you can even choose the fields used), and quickly and easily reads Fault codes...and resets Check Engine lights even quicker. Hard to believe this nifty tool is only $9!!!

Windows software available... for a price.
I havent used the product yet. I saw the windows symbol and assumed that this was windows compatible. I was wrong. Windows software is available...for a price. I'd bet there are a lot of returns and lost income for this very reason. If you're not going to fully disclose this, why not just come up with a Windows version as well?
