Law & Order: Special Victims Unit - The Eleventh Year

Wonderful Season of Fantastic TV Show
Law and Order SVU season 11 is a fantastic season of one of my all time favorite TV shows. I'm really happy that seasons 1-5 and seasons 19 and 20 are available to all Amazon Prime members and the rest are available for purchase. Another of my all time favorite TV shows is the Original Law and Order. Seasons 1 and 2 and seasons 16- 20 are available for purchase but the rest are not available on Amazon. I really hope that they become available on Amazon soon. My favorite episodes in Season Eleven are Unstable, a rape victim bonds with the first cop she meets, Officer Nate Kendall (Wentworth Miller) and refuses to interact with Benson or Stabler so they are forced to work her case with Kendall. The evidence proves that other victims had been beaten and raped by the man who attacked their victim, including a man who Stabler had arrested and who had been convicted and is serving 25 years to life in prison. They arrest the man and he confesses to all of the unsolved rapes and murders that they suspect him of and the rape that another man is serving time for. But when Kendall escorts him to the bathroom he either jumps or is pushed from a high window and dies so there is no way to prove the other man's innocence. This is the first episode with Executive Assistant District Attorney Sonia Paxton (Christine Lahti) as the SVU Unit's New ADA. Sugar, when a young woman is found murdered and stuffed in a suitcase in an underground subway tunnel. SVU investigates and discovers that the victim was on a website called "Tasty Sugar" that features young women looking for older men to form a Sugar Baby- Sugar Daddy relationship . They find one of her Sugar Daddies, a wealthy CEO of a successful internet business. At first he denied responsibility but he eventually confesses. Then SVU detectives review the surveillance tapes from the train station and realize that who they thought was the victim was actually her Sugar Daddy's teenage daughter - who he was covering for. Hammered, a man calls 911 when he wakes up naked on his bathroom floor and finds a dead woman on his bedroom floor. He cooperates with the investigation until all of the tests on the evidence reveal that he murdered the victim, who he picked up at a bar, during an alcoholic blackout. ADA Paxton makes a huge mistake which stresses her out and she starts to drink a lot. When she comes to court drunk the Judge dismisses the charges and the defendant gets away with the murder. Paxton is sent to court ordered rehab. Hardwired, when 2 young boys get caught wrestling naked during a sleepover one boy's mother talks about it and the other boy's mother gets mad and hits her with her car and then punches her in the face. SVU detectives question the boy and discovers that he has been repeatedly sexually assaulted. They investigate and discover that the person abusing him is his stepfather who they arrest and find homemade child pornography on his laptop. He tries to make a deal by offering to turn in the leader of a pedophile rights organization, Our Special Love and they set up a sting operation to catch him on tape but after they arrest the leader of OSL the victim's mother stabs her husband/son's molester. Perverted, when a biker is found murdered with his penis cut off the investigation leads first to a girl being gang-raped on the motorcycle gang's website and then leads to Detective Benson. Benson is confused because she didn't murder anyone and she doesn't even know the victim. Further investigation by the rest of the SVU unit leads them to Brady Harrison (Patrick Heusinger) a man who Benson arrested for drugging and raping women who had just been released from prison. Harrison set Benson up for murder because the victim had raped him in prison. P.C., When a lesbian is raped and murdered in an abandoned building a friend of hers, and the leader of a Lesbian Rights Organization keeps butting in and criticizing the SVU unit. When another woman in the organization is attacked and raped it leads SVU to a man who lives close to where the lesbians do and believes that they are ruining his neighborhood. Savior, after 2 prostitutes are murdered and found with prayer cards the SVU unit investigates and speaks to several of their johns. Then another woman is attacked and has a prayer card left with her but she survives the assault. When she attends the lineup the defendant scares her so bad she runs away and when she calls down the stairs Benson goes to help her and then notices that she is visibly pregnant. Despite her pregnancy she continues turning tricks and then needs to be rushed to the hospital after having a serious seizure and needs to have an emergency c-section, giving birth to a severely premature daughter with major medical issues. She has to testify at a pretrial hearing and the defendant is held over for trial on her attack and the 2 murders but the defense attorney makes her feel so bad about her lifestyle that she takes off to get help and leaves Detective Benson in charge of her daughter's medical care. Witness, when a severely histrionic young woman is taken to the hospital after being raped everyone, including the SVU detectives have a hard time believing her because of her instability and when she mentions a witness who interrupted the rape and beat up the rapist the police really need to find her, especially after the victim develops a serious MRSA infection and dies. They find the witness, an undocumented immigrant from the Congo who was raped repeatedly by a rebel group in her home country and she testifies at the trial. Bedtime, when an investigative journalist is raped and murdered and mutilated with an X carved on her face the SVU detectives set up a sting operation to catch a man working at the welfare department who is making needy women perform sex acts to receive their benefits. After looking at the victim's crime scene photos Captain Cragen recognizes the defendant as "The Bedtime Butcher" a serial killer from the 1970s who was never caught. He raped and murdered women and then carved Xs in their faces. They find his dandruff on the recent victim and on all of the 1970s victims except one, who they realize was a copycat who someone made look like the Bedtime Butcher in order to get away with murder. The victim's husband was a local celebrity who cheated on her with a new woman pretty much every week and they interview and then ruled out several of his girlfriends until they find the real killer, the female cop who investigated the original case and made the crime scene look like she was killed by The Bedtime Butcher. Conned, when a young man is found murdered with his face mutilated at a hotel the SVU squad misidentifies the victim because the killer had left his identification on the victim. They find him and they learn that he killed the victim when he attacked and tried to sexually assault him. He had left his identification on the victim because his psychiatrist had been forcing him into a sexual relationship since he was 12 and he had gotten her pregnant. They investigate the psychiatrist and she claims that it wasn't rape because she was in love with him and they were soulmates, but that doesn't matter. She confessed and was sentenced to 20 years. Ace, when a man is attacking and raping heavily pregnant women one of the victims leaves the hospital and the SVU squad learns that she's an undocumented immigrant from Bulgaria and was taken to the USA so that organized crime members could sell her baby. Captain Cragen has to shoot a man to keep him from murdering her right after her son is delivered and Benson and ADA Marlow interview her at the hospital but she is too afraid to be a witness against the head of the organization. So they try to make a deal with the crooked Dr that they hired to deliver babies for them. This is the second episode with Assistant District Attorney Jo Marlow (Sharon Stone). Wannabe, when a young police officer on a task force arrests a man with a history of flashing and rape and then disappears SVU investigates and discovers that he is not actually a cop. Brad Fletcher is a 16 year old cop wannabe. He feels bad when the case is dismissed and breaks into the suspect's house and gets shot by his father. When they question Fletcher in the hospital they find out that the rapist wears a hidden camera in his baseball cap so that his father can watch the rapes later so they are able to arrest both of them

SVU: Season 11
This has been, for more than a decade now, my favorite show on television. The stories are powerful and they stick with you. Mariska Hargitay and Chris Meloni are the heart of this show. I honestly don't think the show would do as well without them. I would, however, like to see more of Munch and Fin. They seem to have sort of dropped into the background and are only in a few scenes of each episode. I remember earlier seasons when there would be an episode or two (or more) when they were the central characters. The addition of Christine Lahti for the first few episodes was great. I wasn't sure if I was going to like her, but I was pleasantly surprised. I'm glad she didn't stick around for the entire season though. It was great to see Stephanie March back for several episodes. I wish she was back for good, but the way in which she was written out this time (unlike last time when she was put into the witness protection program) was very well done. Overall, this is definitely one of my favorite seasons of the show. Also, even though the price is (or was...not sure if the current price is what it originally was) a little high, at least the season was released fairly quickly after the season aired on TV. I remember when the show first went on DVD, it wasn't until the 5th season was aired. And even then season 1 wasn't released first. So I'm just glad that NBC/Universal is releasing the seasons like nearly every other show.

Hasn't lost any steam!
Olivia Benson is my hero. She's tough but vulnerable all at the same time. The stories are just as heart-wrenching as they have always been, and this one delves a bit more into the personal lives of the detectives, particularly Stabler. Mischa Barton makes a nice getaway from spoiled rich girl Marissa as a young and overwhelmed mother. The one weakness of the season deals with the ADA. Alex Cabot is back. She's sort of like a cockroach, she just won't die! First she leaves then she comes back and then leaves and now she's back again! The show has struggled to find a decent ADA since Casey Novak was disbarred two seasons ago. Just as we're getting comfortable with Cabot again, she decides all of a sudden that she wants to go prosecute bad guys in Africa. Ummmm, what? Okay, so she's gone again, and they bring in Sharon Stone. Sharon Stone is just painful to watch. She's just awful. It's hard to believe this is the same actress who was nominated for an Academy Award for her role in Casino. Hopefully, we can get it together for Season #12.

AWESOME, BUT KEEP THE WRITER'S IN BETTER CHECK!
One of the few series that offer continuing excellence despite very natural staff/cast changes. THEY COULD USE A FEW WRITERS WHO ARE BETTER SUPERVISED. One episode featured a Manhattan street in Southern California. The name was uniquely Manhattan. As an administrator myself, those writers need to be supervised and have their work checked. I do it with my Residents in Psychiatry and it makes them better doctors. A line Dr. Olivet delivered in open court on "Law and Order - Jack McCoy Original" that one of the show's consultants was the one of the best Forensic Psychiatrists in the country was pure bulls*** He's OK; I'm just as good and I can name a dozen in NYC as good as I am. L&O has been the "gold standard" for a while...but as an administrator (and notes much as a shrink), I know the creepy feeling that the inmates are taking over the asylum, (Me? I can and did fire Residents at will.)

Well Acted, Well Written, Top Quality Program and DVD
I find all of the Law and Order programs and seasons to be well written, well acted, and well filmed. Although the plots include some horrible stories, they are interesting and I can hardly put them down to take a coffee break. A top notch show.

Law & Order
