In Afghanistan is part of my "Issues of Our Time" series, and is based on a photograph in an exhibit by The Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) in 2005. The photo shows that Afghan women are not forced to wear the Burqa and can travel without a male family member, such as on this remote village road. But the Taliban and religious terrorist rule has influenced women to cover their faces with a Chadar (scarf). Before, women would only cover their heads, not their faces. I had permission to use the photo as a basis for my painting from the AIHRC. This painting is 20 by 20 inches, gallery wrapped on heavy duty stretchers, with painted sides, so a frame is not necessary. The painting is signed and dated on the back. In Afghanistan has received several awards. It won first place in Fine Art America’s Our World Gallery in 2011. In 2013 it received the Honorable Mention Award at the Westfield Art Association members show, and third prize in The American Juried Art Salon's 2013 Art Jury biannual exhibition. I send a letter of provenance which increases the value of the work. All my artwork is copyrighted by Eleanor Gilpatrick. Copyright is nontransferable through the purchase of artwork.
