An excellent basic training manual for anyone interested in mixed martial arts training.
Since the mixed martial arts became popular I have read and reviewed numerous books on the training of these ultimate warriors. I recently purchased this fantastic book (The Ultimate Mixed Martial Arts Training Guide: Techniques for fitness, self-defense and competition by Danny Plyer and Chad Seibert) on Amazon for a bargain price. This is one of the very best books I have ever read on training for the mixed martial arts. This 294 page, fourteen chapter soft cover book goes into detail on every aspect of training for mixed martial arts. The first chapter covers the history of mixed martial arts, which brought back personal memories of the training seminars I had attended in those early years with Rorian, Royce and Rickson Gracie teaching their Gracie Jiu-jitsu system. The second chapter explains some of the details of the sport of warriors. The third chapter deals with how the warrior trains for this mixed martial art sport. Mental aspects are covered in chapter four. Chapter five goes into cardio training for combat. Chapter six shows the strength training exercises needed for combat. Basic boxing and Muay Thai exercises are explained in chapter seven. Wrestling and takedown techniques and Jiu-Jitsu techniques are covered in chapters eight and nine. Chapter ten focuses on the ultimate MMA ultimate training workouts. Speeding training drills are taught in chapter eleven. Chapter twelve covers nutrition and supplements. The remaining two chapters explain weight cutting and other information for those seeking a mixed martial arts training facility and preparing for the fight. In conclusion, whether you just want to experience the rugged workouts of mixed martial arts or desire to actually fight in a match, this book provides essential information to achieve your goals. As I have mentioned in all of my martial art book reviews, a book does not take the place of actual hands-on training with an instructor (s). This book when used with life action training with instructors is the best and most effective combination.Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Pro-Systems Combatives Vol. 1,2).

godd overview for enthusiast-beginner
Probably one of the most important point in book review, is for whom a book can be a value. This book is exactly what I wrote in title, 4star overview for beginers. For advanced trainee with a coach in a club, just maybe interesting reading, nothing more. I hope nobody believe that in 300 pages you can master striking, wrestling, BJJ, conditioning, etc. For such a wide area, it can not go deep. Click the "Look inside" and table of content and see what is included. Or if you are training in a club where coach has no MMA background(gym teacher from school) this is book for you.

This book wasn't that great. If you already go to a MMA gym ...
This book wasn't that great. If you already go to a MMA gym and expect to learn something from it, I doubt you will. If you don't have access to a gym, then maybe this will help you. I wasn't impressed. I mostly got it expecting it would give training tips, like exercises and stuff like that. It didn't have much of that.

Top resource in my library
I teach myself martial arts, from limited training in martial arts and wrestling as a youth. This book shows highly effective, and focused methods that work. Also has other training and nutrition info that changed my training methods.

A good guide to the basics
A good guide for begginers for the basics. Shows step by step, gives lots of info. But if your not ready, then your going to feel like your heads going to pop off. I would buy this if your really into getting into martial arts. If not or not to the degree then I'd say try another book
