Accompanying the films remarkable story of Philomenas extraordinary search for her long lost son, is composer Alexandre Desplats emotionally riveting score which evokes the compelling narrative of human love and loss that ultimately celebrates life, showing that there is laughter even in the darkest places. Desplats wide usage of instruments gives the film its emotional resonance with both enchantment and a beautifully touching heart.Alexandre Desplats score runs a wide spectrum of poignant and dramatic tones, perfectly complimenting the films touching story of a quest filled with laughter and joy that is often underpinned by sadness. Like other soundtrack composers
A. Desplat has been writing some remarkable soundtracks of late, e.g., Grand Budapest Hotel, Moonrise Kingdom, etc. Like other soundtrack composers, John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, Randy Edelman, it is a pleasure to listen to. His gentle, playful style is in striking to contrast to many bombastic soundtracks that offer little in the way of substance - other than noise.

A beautiful score.
This isn't my favourite Alexandre Desplat, but all his soundtracks are wonderful. I haven't seen the film, and yet from the music I can almost see what is happening. Beautiful and uplifting.
