Works well when it works, but the thin wire is a pain
Functionality deserves five stars, but set up deserves one so we ended up with three. We have been unable to teach the new dog to leave our chickens alone. He finally killed three of them so time for drastic measures. (His predecessor and our other dog were easily trained.) I chose this setup because of the low cost. I figure that if it stops working, the dog will have learned by then that chickens are off limits. The dog approaches the forbidden area and the collar starts beeping. So far, the beeping gets his attention and he moves off before the collar moves on to the next step. The dog usually only goes after the chickens when no one is around so we'll see what happens when I put the dogs outside again in the morning. So far, I'm very happy with the final result. Let's just see if it accomplishes the purpose. The problem was with the setup - specifically the wire. The wire is thin - very thin. It's very easy to break and kink when trying to lay it out.The spool the wire is on is not quite big enough. It's nice that they give you so much wire, but it's constantly looping off the spool getting kinked and tangled. It's a real pain trying to carefully lay out the wire. I had the wire layed out and everything just about ready and I had to stop due to rain. I didn't have the system up and running yet so when I let the dogs out this morning the new dog didn't take long to harass the chickens through the fence. Did some digging and tore up the wire. I had to start from scratch and lay out this thin wire again. If this teaches the dog to leave the chickens alone then the frustration was well worth it, but the frustration could have been avoided if only the wire had been a little thicker and tougher.Edit: Several weeks later...... It stopped working one day. Power unit beeping saying there was a break in the line. The goats found the wire and chewed it up. Soldered the wire together and sprayed with Plastidip. Fixed it so the goats can't get to the wire. All is well.It stopped working again. A mole dug up through the ground and happened to put his hole right through the wires. Chewed the wires up. Dropped a smoke bomb down the hole to deter the mole. Soldered the wires together and all is well.It stopped working again. It doesn't seem to be sensing the collar. The dog - wearing the collar - digs a hole near the chickens and tears up the wires. Arrrggghh! Soldered the wires back together. Put new battery in the collar. Unit is not sensing the collar. Will continue to play with it.The dumb (or smart) dog isn't learning. He is always testing. Whenever he finds he is not getting beeped or shocked he starts digging around the chickens and goats.I almost wish I had run the wire though some pvc pipe in order to keep all critters without collars on from tearing the wire up. There is no way to prevent rabbits, squirrels, moles or other critters from tearing up the wire. I'm thinking I should have just gone with a system with a charged wire that zaps all animals if they touch it. I've dropped my review from 3 to 2 stars because of the difficulty in keeping the system running due to broken wires and communication issues between the power station and the collar.

Good unit, AWFUL wire
The unit itself is okay. Seemed to work fine. However, do NOT use the wire supplied with it. The wire is junk and breaks very, very easily. Once the line is buried you will probably never find the break. Just buy a better quality wire, there are several options that tend to show up as a "buy together" thingy on amazon. I'm not even kidding, don't use this wire. It gets so tangled that you will easily spend 400% more time trying to untangle the wire, come up with some kind of feeder spool, cuss a lot, and dig your work back up because it suddenly breaks and pulls out of the ground. The collars supplied are meh, the tether material is flimsy if you have a dog that can manage to chew or scratch it. If you manage to install the crappy wire the collars seem to work fine and the unit itself is fine. I'd recommend buying this for the unit and collar units (not the collar material though) but would caution anyone to buy a quality radio wire. We covered about one acre and the signal was fine at every point we tested it around the perimeter. You should also plan to get different flags to use for training. The little plastic flags came apart and the plastic "fabric" either fell off as it was installed or blew away in a slight breeze. The utility marking flags you can get work well, they're also taller and easier for digs to see at a distance and learn quickly not to approach.

Received faulty wire.
I ran the wire above ground first as stipulated in the instructions and upon mounting the transmitter unit and plugging it in, was notified of a 'break' in the line. Upon walking the length of the wire 3 times, I couldn't find the break. So I began processing my return on a seemingly faulty unit. When I was retrieving the line for the return, I discovered that where I'd run the line into conduit for in front of the driveway, there was a section of the wire that had broken and been looped back together and twisted up as if when the wire was placed on the spool in the manufacturing facility it was known that a break had occurred and rather than notifying the customer of their spool not being a single line and including a reliable method of reconnecting the line, I was left unaware that I hadn't in fact received the spool of 500m wire that I was under the impression came with my product. Upon retrieving the wire, it became too tangled to re-run the line so that I could attempt to splice the 2 writes together.Very frustrating attempted installation that resulted in hours of lost time, 4 holes in my wall where the transmitter was mounted under the assumption the item was shipped as expected, and an over all very unpleasant experience.

Terrible fencing system....
Please do not buy this fence! I know I shouldn't have expected much being that the fencing system was under $40 but this really shouldn't be sold at all. After spending hours installing the wire we found that our dog literally has to be on top of the wire before it makes a sound or shock and even then it only works occasionally. Only certain spots around the perimeter will send the signal. There is no break in the wire as one spot will have no signal but three feet in either direction works. We even bought new batteries for the collar thinking maybe that was the issue but no, it just is a terrible system. If we hadn't buried the wire, we certainly would have sent this item back for a refund.

It Works!
My dog learned very quickly not to approach the fence. Now, if I can get the lawn care people to close the gate when they mow, I wouldn't have a dog escape my back yard.

waste of time and money
Collar didn't work and the wire was impossible thin and hard to work with, constantly kinking and snapping

Expect only a 2 month life span
After we buried the line it lasted approximately 2 months and then it kept saying there was a break in the line we checked the line no break it was the power box.

Complete waste of money
Completely cheap quality. Wire couldn't be more thin - dog broke it with one small swipe of his paw. The transmitter on the collar completely fell apart, the cap fell off which holds the batteries in, then the batteries fell out. Don't buy this.
