Old fashioned late night horror but not exploitive
I thought this was actually really good, but it could've been better. Since this was made by Ossorio, it was disapointing that this lacked exploitation. Some may like the film the way it is, but I'm used to Ossorio films having either a lot or some of that good stuff that he's known for. Nevertheless, I thought this movie has excellent scenery. The whole thing is very visually appealing with the castle, crypts, and locations. That's one of the best things about it. The directing is really good, and I thought the acting is fine also. There's a story, but it isn't complicated. It isn't a typical vampire film because what exactly they are is revealed in a climax that some may or may not like. Then the leader isn't killed like a vampire but decays like one. So what exactly he is isn't really clear. It's basically a mostly calm visual film that you watch late at night, but it does get a bit talky in parts. A short clothed whipping scene, and a little blood at the end when the main vampire dies is about all there is in terms of exploitation. There's no nudity, and the entire film is non-violent; if you're looking for violence, gore, action and nudity forget it.There isn't much in terms of extras, but the transfer for this old and obscure film is excellent. Since the look of the entire thing is one of the best things, the great transfer is necessary.

Shockingly Good Video Transfer
I used to enjoy this movie on late night TV as a kid. Some of the video releases over the years have been absolutely awful in quality.Fortunately the blu-ray is stunning! What an absolute treat to see Fangs of the Living Dead in all its glory! I never imagined I’d see such a high quality release of this movie!

Gothic Horror Sans the Horror - 3 Stars: 2 for the Film, 1 More for an Excellent Transfer
I was really looking forward to this one, so it pains me to say it’s pretty disappointing. I love Amando de Ossorio’s films. From campy creature features to nightmarish undead gems, they transport me to a faraway realm where eerie gothic atmosphere meets macabre imagery with a dash of sleaze and a touch of schlock. Alas, the worst thing any horror movie can be is boring, and Fangs of the Living Dead is a well-filmed, lavishly-set snooze fest.Beautiful Sylvia is 2 weeks away from marrying her man when a letter arrives informing her that she’s the beneficiary of her dead uncle’s castle. She ditches her dude and heads to the Italian countryside. When she shows up, there’s a whole lot of yapping about vampires and danger, which sounds promising until you realize Ossorio’s not planning to deliver any dread, tension or carnage. The most frustrating aspect about FOTLD is that it has half the ingredients for a cool gothic horror film: 17th century castle, a crypt with candles flickering against its stone walls, gorgeous women, and bloodsucker lore. Problem is, there’s no atmosphere, action or scares to make the things interesting, or break up the stretches of dialogue. The vampire presence is toned way down to barely-there, and we’re left with too many scenes of unnecessary exposition, slowing the run time to a crawl and jumbling the already-messy script further. It would’ve been cool if Scream Factory made this half of a(nother Amando de Ossorio) double feature, ‘cuz it’s just not strong enough to stand on its own. Special features are a commentary by Troy Howarth and trailer. So what are the bright sides? Well, the movie looks cool. The cinematography is clear and colorful, and Scream Factory, as always, presents a fantastic restoration of this Spanish-Italian obscurity. The transfer is nearly flawless and colors pop in every scene, especially with the lavish medieval decor of the castle. If you’re already a fan of Ossorio’s films you’re gonna buy this regardless of my take on it. And you should. But if you’re hoping for an eerie gothic horror flick with morbid imagery and violence, start with Tombs of the Blind Dead, Night of the Seagulls, and the Night of the Sorcerers/The Loreley’s Grasp double feature.Released in ‘69 as Malenka and retitled in ‘71 for American drive-in audiences, Fangs predates Ossorio’s best films so it’s safe to assume he hadn’t fully honed his style yet. That said, I’m genuinely grateful to see ANY of this man’s work resurrected, restored and released on BD, and I look forward to more in the future.

Wonderful Euro Horror Flick
I’m a big fan of euro horror sleaze so I wasn’t expecting much when I ordered this film. Heck it was only $16 and it’s directed by the same guy who did Tombs of the Blind Dead so how could you go wrong. I was pleasantly surprised by this little gem which has lots of atmosphere and plenty of cleavage. The quality of the Blu-ray transfer is superb. If you haven’t been totally jaded by hammer horror flicks and like a little camp in your movies, this is for you.

Turns out hits was made like 50 years ago
I was in the mood for a vampire flick. Turns out hits was made like 50 years ago. But if you like good, old, and cheesy, this one fills the bill and that is why I gave it the fourth star. You can tell immediately its an "oldie". No academy mentions for flick or actors, but blindly true to its legend and lore.Standard early color vampire horror flick. Sometimes these old ones will show up and I'll bite on 'em. I think it is always about the mystique and what powers does this vampire really have.No nudity and 1 punch type of fighting for violence. So if your a parent and you don't want him/her to see violence or sex but watching vampires drain bodies of their blood is okay, then it's safe. :D

Fangs of the Undead
Super-model Anita Ekberg inherits a castle, breaks off her engagement, and falls under the spell of her cold and strange uncle as she learns more of her inheritance and her heritage. Or something like that. FANGS OF THE LIVING DEAD (aka Bloody Girl, Malenka the Vampire, The Niece of the Vampire and The Vampire's Niece) is hard to follow and probably not worth the trouble. I think Ekberg's grandmother Malenka (also played by Ekberg) was a dabbler in the black arts, outed and burned at the stake by irate villagers just after she'd brought Uncle Max to life, or undeath. Anyway, she's burning while he's fluttering his eyelids and wiggling his fingers. You figure it out. In any event, there's a spooky castle, a creepy vampire uncle, busty barmaids, a gallant fiancé and trusty sidekick, and bunches of garlic hanging in every innocent window and doorway. This may well have been a satire that will appeal to fans of the genre. I just found it unpleasantly confusing.

Not a great vampire movie by any stretch
Not a great vampire movie by any stretch, this Blu-ray release does give the viewer pretty good video quality. This movie is dubbed in English, and has an alternate ending offered, which is of poor video quality but which should have been the actual ending in high quality. Anita Ekberg fans and those who love vampire movies will like it; others are best advised to steer clear.

Fangs of the Living Dead Video
I gave this DVD a 3 star rating only because the video quality could have been better. It is fair at best; however, the story line is great. I did enjoy it very much. The audio quality is excellent. In spite of the subpar video quality, I would still recommend it for vampire movie enthusiasts and the price is right!

better than nothing
This would only really be of interest to vampire completists or those with a serious interest in Spanish horror films. The film was also given the far better title of 'Malenka, Lady Vampire'. To my knowledge there is no restored or better quality version available, so go for this one in the spirit of 'research' and you might not be too disappointed.
