Works Well
Works well at dethatching the lawn. It did exactly what I wanted it to do. It pulled up tufts of thatch that are easily picked up now by the next mowing with my vacuum bagger tomorrow.Putting the thing together is a little awkward, but all the parts needed were attached to the 3 pieces in the box, and the instructions were more or less clear. Looking at how it's supposed to end up is instructive to getting things together correctly, with the tines up and the wheels down when in the locked position. I have also previously purchased an aerator attachment from the same company, that assembles similarly, so that helped. As a side note I am quite satisfied with the performance of the aerator as well.In operation, I found that I required no additional weight in the carriage, as the weight of the thing itself was sufficient for what dethatching I was looking for. The picture included is after a pass with no weight. The lawn is agreeably littered with dried grass mat and as well some of the low creeping weeds that are scattered about. The sparser areas of lawn that need overseeding, look now to be very receptive to new seeds after passing over with this attachment. One caution in use is to avoid tight turns. The inside tines dig in and lifts the outer edge of the carriage and the middle to outer half makes no contact. After doing a half acre, the tines, which seem quite sturdy, have remained in good alignment and hold their shape with little signs of wear, save the tips that are pretty well polished by the dragging. I did not attempt to back up with the tines engaged, (the wheels lifted, tines down), as it seems that would be a sure way to mistreat the tines. Neither did I engage the tines in traversing my cement drive or walkways, but that was out of clear concern for the dethatching scratching they seem capable of, not for concern for the tines.

Good Dethatcher
Item received with no damage or missing parts. Heavy duty construction. Easy to assemble, took about 20 minutes. Works pretty good removing thatch and dead grass. I added two 8x8x16 concrete blocks for a total weight of 60 pounds and it worked much better. Well worth the $120.

Well made, heavy duty steel, works great!
I'm so glad that I purchased this commercial grade heavy duty dethatching unit. It was very easy to put together, the lever works very easily - even while sitting on the mower - and the unit, while heavy enough not to need extra weight on top, can easily accommodate a cinder block or two if one feels the need. Of note is that I had one of the cheapo $50.00 lightweight dethatchers from Home Depot, and that one was flimsy, required weights, and did not have the convenient handle that raises and lowers the wheels. Finis. RRR

Worked exceptionally on ground prep for seeding new lawn!
We used it to prep the soil for seeding native grass for our front lawn. It did a great job behind our John Deere lawn tractor. We were surprised and pleased with the results. We aer ready to spread the seed. We will use it in the back yard to prep for wildflowers.

Precision 42" dethatcher
Rugged, well built. Works well and as expected.Easy, minimal assembly. Was impressed with how sturdy, not flimsy at all at 55lbs.Comes with a flat black powder coat finish.Only detractor was not the product itself but the packaging it was shipped in, Was loosely packaged, looked like it came directly from factory and was not intended to be shipped in this fashion. However, my unit arrived unscathed.Even came with hitch pin.

Arrived heavily damaged
Very good product but the shipping needs work. The wheel was broken and the arm was bent. I was not home at the time of delivery. The shipping box was a mess.

Piece of junk. Do not buy.
Purchased this based on the Amazon reviews of others. Dethatcher arrived in a shipping boxed that appeared to have been air dropped out the back of a C-130 from about 15,000 ft without the use of a landing chute. Upon opening what was left of the box, I discovered both the arms that hold the wheels onto the body of dethatcher were bent to the point of fracture, rendering the product useless. The dethatcher itself was poorly made, and assembled. Corners were not squared before being bolted together, one bolt was missing completely, a 2in by 2 in square of the body was without paint and was simply bare metal. Even the stupid decal was only half attached to the front. Couldn't even get the decal on properly. Wow! I used half a roll of packing tape to seal up what was left of the box, and returned it to Amazon immediately for a full refund. Don't make the same mistake I did. Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere. What a piece of junk! I would give it zero stars if Amazon allowed it.

Excellent Product - better than the others and what you find in box stores.
I searched tow behind de-thatchers on Amazon but this make did not show up. I was not satisfied with what I read about the other brands here, they seemed to be less sturdy, thinner steel, more for the homeowner market and smaller lawns. I wanted something with thicker steel that had a lever I could use to raise and lower it. A Goog search found Precision Products DT42GY. Back to Amazon to search for DT42GY and it came up in the search results. (note to Precision: you should fix this)This unit does the job well. For dethatching, my soil is pretty hard so I added a 40lb bag of playground sand to weight it. I did 3 passes in my 1 acre yard and using the riding lawnmower and bagger I sucked out 10 bags of thatch. The arm to raise and lower the unit works well. It was a simple matter to shorten the arm so it would not hit the back of the mower on tight turns. (suggestion to Precision, make the hitch bar 6" longer).Assembly is simple, just bolt the tow bar and wheel adjustment arm to the unit and you are all set. Just need two wrenches.PS: I did an additional modification to the unit to allow me to use it for weeding a large garden. If you pull the unit thru the soil it will pull up small weeds that are just starting to pop up. But for established weeds, I needed something that would cut the weed root. With two 1/2 threaded rods one on each side, and a steel cable tight between them I can cut those weed roots and the dethatcher tines pull the weed out. Not a 100% solution but i'll take what I can get when it comes to those darn weeds. My soil is tilled so its soft and I can get under to the root when towing. There is minimal assembly
