No ringtones available
I'm sure this was great back when the website was still up and you could download some ringtones. Unfortunately, the website doesn't exist anymore, and it doesn't come with any stock tones. When my phone rings, I just hear a guy explaining how to use it.

No custom ringtones
What isn't clear from this product's description, or the manufacturer's web site, is that you have to buy your ringtones from them, and you can only use ringtones in their limited library. I hate that. I'd like to make my own ringtones so that I can use the same ringtones for callers on my cellphone and home phone, and so I can use a snippet of my caller's voice as their custom ringtone. It is really disappointing to me that this device has all the technology to make that easily possible, but they've restricted it to ringtones they sell. I love the concept of this device, but they've ruined it.

Musice to our ears!
Basically, I bought this product, because I'm lazy, the phone rings and I run to the phone to see who is calling (caller Id) and then decide if I want to answer it or not, with Ringboxx, I just have to listen and I know who is calling, husband, sons, family etc. Its great. What I didn't expect was that my daughter (14) mentally retarded, recognizes the phone tunes and knows who is calling too! She never has had the opportunity to use the phone and now recognizing the tunes can answer the phone for the first time ever! She is now requesting more tunes for extended family members. If you should have a child or know of a child with limited abilities - this is a great product to expand their horizons! Pass the word!

Now allows custom ringtones...for a price
OK, so they underpriced the unit (from their perspective) with the idea they'd be able to rake in the cash when people buy ringtones, therefore custom ringtones weren't allowed.Well, they've had a (partial) change of heart and now, starting with "Home Phone Tunes PC software version 2.1.1", the customer is able to make his or her own custom ringtones, for a price. You can now buy the right to create your own ringtone (one at a time) for the same cost as buying a ringtone from HomePhoneTunes directly. So...the feeling of nickel-and-diming doesn't go away.Hey, HomePhoneTunes. Why not just sell me a Ringboxx at a fair, all-inclusive price, with unlimited custom ringtones?

A "Must Have" for Every Home Phone!!!
We purchased this product strictly as a home entertainment device and have not been disappointed. Considering that our cell phone ringtones cost between $3-$5 to purchase, we find the price of HPT's ringtones to be reasonable. In addition, the fact that record company manufacturers don't allow transfer of downloads is probably what prevents the company from offering them outside of their library which by the way, seems very extensive to us. Yeah, it would be great to be able to dowload the ringtones from your cell phone to the Ringboxx but then you would incur a tranfer fee from your cell phone company. All in all, we love the utility of the product. If you are a stay-at-home mom or someone working from the home, the Ringboxx is a fantastic time saving device. Having customized ringtones for friends, family members, unwanted "800" callers allows me the freedom to decide whether or not I need to stop what I'm doing and take that call. Not to mention, the ringtones are so much more entertaining than the standard phone ringtones. The Ringboxx is fun, it's convenient and affordable. Your kids will love it, too!!!

Pricey ringtones, company not upfront about no MP3 support
I could not find anywhere in their product literature or on their web site, that the Ringboxx doesn't support custom ring-tones. It isn't until you set up this device that you make that realization. I tried creating and importing a custom mp3 ring-tone and it will not work. Also you can only purchase ring-tones from the company that makes the Ringboxx at $2 - $3 a piece!! Again, you only get this info during the setup process. The Ringboxx doesn't come with a selection of included ring-tones like a cell does. The 10 credits that came with the Ringboxx were only enough to purchase 4 ring-tones. Not nearly enough for my needs. By the time I purchase a memory card and enough ring-tones, I will have spent more than the device cost (which apparently I overpaid through Amazon at $59. The manufacturer has it on their site for $39). I LOVE the idea, but had I known the expense and limitations, I would not have bought it. I have since found out there are phones (Panasonic to name one) available with "Talking Caller ID" for slightly more than I paid for the Ringboxx. I wish I would have gotten one of those instead. If I cannot return this product, I will NOT be buying more ringtones unless they drop SUBSTANTIALLY in price (everyone else charges about 99 cents). So for now I am stuck with only 4 ring-tones. If they fix the afore mentioned issues, I would recommend it. But until then, I don't recommend this product.

Worked great at first, then broke, No phone Customer Support
The Ringboxx worked perfectly for about 4 to 5 months, then it stopped working. I emailed SUPPORT because there was NOT a phone number listed anywhere on the website. I have played email tag with one of the support people for weeks, and still have not received any answers on how to fix it. Being somewhat of a computer geek, I tried everything logical to do to make it work, but it does not. It powers-up with the correct lights burning, but when the phone rings, it does not play anything. As of today, I emailed the company to ask for a tech support TELEPHONE NUMBER. The warrenty is for 90 days, so I'm out of the money. It is a GREAT idea, but if it inoperative and there is no phone tech support, you would be better off to buy a telephone with built in ring tones. "If" I hear from tech support, I will make another post and add a few more stars.
