workability
I ordered this item with little expectations it would actually work...and I DID!Only issue was that the link to use for it to save info was a Chinese web and I decided not to use it.However, for those fearful that this item is good, I can tell you that just getting near my cat showed the chip number...so suggestions are to keep your finger on the reading button and write it down so you can research further.

Buy a rock it's cheaper and works as well
Few to zero instructions. Tried to read chips in 4 of my 8 pets both AVID (125 Mhz 9 digits) & HomeAgain (134 Mhz, 15 digits), nothing, just "Reading...." The battery it came with was worthless, I plugged it into a power bank to get it to run. EXTREMELY disappointed. Don't waste your time with it.

If you are planning on using this to import a pet abroad...
I recommend trying it way in advance. Unfortunately, it did NOT work for my cat. I bought a $250ish one after returning this one and it worked perfectly and felt sturdy. I'd be concerned trusting this to even make a trip abroad tbh. It felt veryyy flimsy. Don't risk it.

Not sure if it's worth the price tag
Well, for the most part, I am happy that I decided to order this product. It lowers my worry about lost and stray dogs and cats. I am a big animal person, and I have often done some rescue work for strays and abandoned pets. In the past, I have found many animals that I wished so much to be able to scan for a microchip. Unfortunately, I never had one before, so I had to rely on more difficult methods, like posting as found on Facebook. That is obviously a more frustrating and time consuming process. Now that I have this microchip scanner, whenever I find a furbaby, I can scan them to see if they have an owner to contact. All that being said, I don't know if the well over $100 price tag, is actually worth it for this scanner. Clearly it is great to have, as I mentioned before. It actually is not a big need though. You can likely take them to any vets office to be scanned. Mostly though, I typically feel as, if someone loses their pet, then they should be actively searching everywhere possible. In which case they wouldnt be difficult to find. I realize though, that a pet owner may be under the impression that their pet is deceased, and that is why they are no longer searching for them. I'm sure there are other reasons that someone may have for why they are not actively searching, so no judgment here. I suppose this product doesn't have a simple answer as to whether its a worthwhile purchase or not. I think the best possibility would be, if you can afford it, then definetly get it. If it's out of your budget, or will have negative results, skip it. You can easily find a work around if neededThe device itself has worked well for me so far. I read in some of the reviews, it was not ever working for some of them. Or that it's pretty useless, basically. Time will tell as far as that goes, but as of now, it has worked well for me. I've found it fairly easy to operate, despite it having very little info, as far as instructions go.

NOT UNIVERSAL
Poorly made, doesn’t stay on, doesn’t read universal chips.
