Cute and fun wooden swords, but not enough attention to detail.
I got this set of two swords for my two boys (ages 3.5 and 6) for Christmas. They love swords, and like most boys, they like to be rough with them, sword fight, smack things, and stab things. Out of the box, they were an instant delight, and my boys had an immediate (and adorable) sword fight match in the midst of our unwrapping. There are a few things I really like about these swords:1. They are wooden, and wood = sturdy. They're not flimsy plastic or foam like the typical toy swords you find in stores. That was a major selling point. I wanted swords that would last longer than two days.2. They are fairly short in length. I think these are the perfect size for little kids. Easy to handle and not be accidentally smacking everything in sight, but still long enough to give a nice feel and have a sword fight without getting your fingers hit.3. The sheath. My boys love to pretend to have a sheath by sticking their sword straight into their pants, so I thought they would really enjoy the sheath aspect.Unfortunately, these swords came with a few defects. I understand that these must be a handmade item, which means the end products are often unique and the craftsmanship can vary. However, these swords just have actual defects and seem to lack attention to detail. We encountered several issues with them:1. On one of the swords, the hand guard is loose and wiggles around. Upon further inspection, it appears there is actually a chunk of wood missing where the pieces are glued together.2. One of the sheaths is cracked on the side, and one of them is bowed in a little. One sheath is straight and one is curved. One of them gives a loose fit on the swords and one of them gives a snug fit.3. The attached string used to secure the sheath onto a belt is simply stapled on, and on one of them, it was stapled incorrectly. You can see the wood is actually breaking on the incorrectly placed staple. The last picture was taken after a few days of use; the string had detached. It hadn't even been put onto a belt yet. This is kind of a big deal, because the sheath is completely useless without a way to attach it to your clothing.Lastly, there were two small aspects I noticed that also seemed to lack attention to detail.1. You can tell the design on the sheaths is a stamp, because it's very faded on some parts. Not a huge deal to us, but if I'd gotten these swords for the design, I'd probably be upset about the heavy fading.2. The tip of the swords actually comes to a point. Ours weren't sanded down, though the item description advertises a "dull tip" for safety, and the picture has a rounded tip as well. These were unsanded tips. Fortunately, we haven't wrecked anything with the tips yet, and fortunately, sanding can be done ourselves.Overall, I gave this item 3 stars; I may have given 4 if the sheath strings were properly attached and the tips were sanded as advertised. These swords are fairly mediocre, lack attention to detail, and seem to have a good chance of having at least one flaw. However, it IS a set of wooden swords. That is probably the main selling point. For a price of $7.50 per sword/sheath, I suppose I got what I paid for.EDIT: 2 stars. Both swords and one sheath were broken within 2 months. The swords had to be tossed. The blade of the sword would completely break off of the handle and was unfixable and unsafe to play with.
