Compact design and perfect toast
I originally purchased this toaster because how compact it is. Any appliance needs to justify the footprint that it takes up in a small kitchen, and this was a perfect fit. But I was also looking for a toaster that had gotten good reviews and recommendations. I'd had this on my list for a while, but the push was catching it on sale. I'm so glad that I finally purchased it. I thought my old toaster was pretty good, but the Cuisinart compact toaster showed me I was wrong. Finally I have evenly toasted bread, instead of the splotchy job the old one it replaced did.I like that the plunger handle can also provide that extra bit of lift out of the toasting chamber, so that small slices are easier to grab.Like all new electric appliances, there's a bit of manufacturing residue that burns off the first time you use it. I recommend running it for a minute (under a watchful eye) just to burn that off. Then you're ready to do with beautifully toasted bread. I suggest starting with a setting of between 2 to 3 to get the hang of the darkness setting. The electric cord is quite stiff, but works fine. Time will tell how everything holds up. This is still just a week old, so I'll report back if something changes. Otherwise, I like what I've seen thus far.

It toasts!
I really tried to find something wrong with this, but I couldn’t. I was bitter from buying a $10 toaster from Walmart, just to replace it within 30 days with this lovely toaster. Nice wide slots, it has a council button so you don’t have to pull up on the lever. It’s got a couple of their settings that I probably won’t use, but I’m satisfied with the overall layout overall k, quality and features.

Good
Toasts very well! Sometimes the handle will not stay down the way it should.

Disappointed
Compared to other Cuisinart toasters I have had in the past, I was extremely disappointed with the Cuisinart 2 slice toaster CPT-122BK model. Not sure if I just got a defective one or if they are all like that, but it didn't work correctly. The toaster itself is very lightweight & low quality compared to the others I have had. It looks good & the cord is a good length & can be contained underneath. I definitely recommend a removable crumb tray & it has one. It was packaged well & I had it delivered in an Amazon box. I like the cancel, bagel & defrost options & the wide slots - unfortunately, that's the only good things about it as it didn't toast as it should.I ran a couple cycles to burn off the manufacturing residue & tested the toaster with several different types/sizes/thickness of bread at the various heat settings - all had issues. Weirdly, the pieces of toast that I scraped off the burnt parts tasted like there was cinnamon on it & I was using Texas toast & peanut butter, so there shouldn't have been a cinnamon taste. The bread was still cold even though it was burnt. It appeared brand new in the box with all of the wrappings & no crumbs in it when I unboxed it, so I don't know what happened. The plastic sides of the toaster got very hot, even on the lowest setting. The lever isn't smoothe when you press it down & you can see the red heat elements through the lever slit in the plastic. Thicker bread doesn't pop up very much when it's done. The bread carriage doesn't hold the bread in the center of the slots & it didn't settle in the same spot every time.Toasting at level 1 or 2 doesn't get the bread toasted or warm. Level 2.5 - 3.5 burns one side of the bread while the other side isn't toasted at all. Turning it over to toast the other side ends up burning both sides. Anything higher makes charcoal. There's no control at all over the toast brownness because it goes from nothing to burnt in less than 1 level. Weirdly, even when the toast was burnt, the bread wasn't warm at all. The heat elements get really red & all seem to light up, but I don't know what makes the toaster do what it does at the lower heat levels. If you like burnt cold toast, you would probably like this defective toaster.I need to have a toaster that works correctly & consistently since we use it every day for multiple people & picky eaters.Thankfully, I am able to return the toaster without leaving my house - the UPS building is about 10 miles away from my house & I don't have a vehicle right now & we don't really have any public transportation options here. UPS will pick it up at some point tomorrow & being a label to put on it. Hopefully that goes smoothly! I have already ordered a different brand toaster that has 4.7 stars - hopefully I get one that actually works well, every time.

Works well and durable--our prior one lasted seven years
We bought this to replace the same model Cuisinart toaster that lasted almost seven years until the mechanism that holds the lever down failed (probably due to misuse) and we could only use the toaster if we held the lever down as the bread toasted. We found that the bread toasted slightly more on one side (presumably because the bread wasn't positioned exactly between the coils) but that wasn't a serious problem. This one toasts more evenly, so they either improved manufacturing tolerances or we just got lucky with the particular toaster we got. I did notice that the lever pushes down more smoothly on this one than our old one, which gives a nicer feel when pushing the toast down. The only other small complaint we had with our previous Cuisinart toaster is that crumbs don't always drop through to the tray at the bottom, so bits of toast can get stuck and burn unless you invert and shake the toaster to work them loose. If you buy pre-sliced bread or white bread, this probably isn't an issue. But if you bake fairly dry whole-grain bread that's kind of "flakey," it's a bit of an inconvenience. We considered many other toasters and would have been willing to spend more, but the more expensive ones often didn't get good reviews for reliability and we read an article that said they use the same cooking coil and mechanism as this one, so we thought we'd just stick with what worked pretty well in the past. We considered a professional toaster, but they seemed to all be the kind that use a conveyer belt, which would be overkill for toasting two slices of bread at a time and take up too much counter space.

Strong start, but that didn’t last long
Look, I didn’t expect this to be a paragon of gorgeous, evenly toasted, golden toast –or, at least, I didn’t expect that would last forever. It was a reasonably priced toaster, and I was hoping to get a couple of decent years’ service out of it. No dice. I’m less than three months in, and already the toaster has two serious flaws. One: it won’t stay down when I push down the toast button. It’s like a fight, or maybe a negotiation, every morning. Toast my toast! I’d prefer not to. No, seriously, toast, my toast! No, thanks, I’d prefer not to. Every time I push down the lever, it pops right back up again, until finally, I reach some miraculous perfect push, or the toaster decides to humor me, or the moon is in the seventh house, and then my toast begins to toast. Two: one side of my toast gets toasted, mostly on the bottom, while the other side stays creamy white. I am not interested in micromanaging my toaster. I am not interested in flipping and swapping. I am interested in putting in my bread and getting back toast. If that’s what you want, this is not the toaster for you.

Cuisinart Compact Toasters, 5 Stars
I recently replaced my old toaster after it failed to pop up and burned the toast for the second time this year. After some research, I chose the Cuisinart Compact Toaster in Black and I'm very happy with it. I love the sleek color and extra-wide 1.5-inch slots that easily handle bagels and thicker bread. The 7 shade settings, defrost/reheat/cancel options, and high-lift carriage deliver consistent results every time, while the slide-out crumb tray makes cleanup effortless. I like the compact design and it fits nicely on the counter, and the 3-year warranty is a nice bonus. Great toaster!

Probably the best 2-slice compact toaster
Reliable Consistent and Safe, which may be the most important feature for kitchen appliances. Lots of praise for the “stay cool” plastic of this compact Cuisinart toaster. It replaced the same model that had been in service for about 8 years after I did something really stupid - no details - just know that it is great quality and worth its weight in gold at a very affordable price.

Excelente tostador.
