Flying Fun
This has been great for learning to control quad copters. It is oh course not a multi hundred dollar unit and has it's weak points. I have been able to not worry about the height of this copter and focus on basic controls. I am not a spring chicken, and cannot just pick things up and fly them around like when I was a child. I didn't have a problem putting this together, and it seems to be well made. The control is easy and because it is only early spring I have only taken it for short test outside. It worked ok outside as long as the wind was not too high. Watch your battery if it dies on you will lose control of this copter and will be chasing it down. I guess the radio loses contact before the motors shut down. The altitude hold works just ok, it does go up a foot or so then drop back, or it may do the opposite drop a foot and try to recover up. I haven't broken anything yet so I can't say anything bad. Get extra batteries. If you go with the longer lasting batteries the altitude hold does not work as well. Ask me any questions I will be happy to answer.

This drone is the best starter drone you can start out with in my ...
I had an issue with the Drone at first. It would be 50 feet away roughly and I would lose signal. I was in an open area of the park so I didn't think that there would be any interference. I went to another area of the park same thing dropped the signal. Rather than send it back I figured I'd look around on YouTube for some help. Help I found. On the transmitter you can change the strength of the signal. if the four bars are flashing it's on the weak setting if they are solid then it's on the high setting. To change the setting all you have to do is push up on the trim button directly left of the right thumb stick as you turn on the power followed by syncing the craft to the transmitter up then down. I can now fly much greater area without loss of signal. This drone is the best starter drone you can start out with in my opinion. Out of the box it's ready to fly. Has nice steady hover, nice response to the controls in high mode, and pretty tough as we have had some hard hits into the grass. The Wi-Fi camera is a nice starter camera and helps to have when you get far away and lose your bearings. Also you can download the app which allows you to FPV real time as well as record videos and pictures. For the price I paid we are getting every pennies worth. Make sure you grab some extra batteries I bought some 780mah here on amazon didn't cost much and comes with a charger. I have heard you can fit up to a 1200mah in this drone.

Requires ZERO Wind
If you're just getting into quad copter flying, choosing an inexpensive model to learn on first is paramount. Aside from looking for something cheap to start with, the main reason I went with the X5HW was mainly because of the available features, which you can't seem to find on another quads in this price range. The main feature I really wanted was altitude hold, and the X5HW fit the bill. I have a small micro Syma and a Hubsan X4, both of which have serious issues holding altitude. They all go up...down...up...down...up...down, absolutely no hovering ability for more than a few seconds, which makes trying to fly them frustrating. So, needless to say, I was looking forward to the X5HW's altitude hold, which seems to work decent. There is a little up and down variance, but for the most part, you don't have to worry about altitude on the X5HW, which allows you to focus on more important things.Aside from altitude hold, there is also headless mode. In short, headless mode simply takes out the frustration of learning backwards directions. Typically, pressing up is forward and pressing right makes the quad go right, when going away from you, normal operation. However, if you rotate the quad so it's coming at you, the controls will be reversed. Headless mode makes it so no matter what direction the quad is facing, right is always right and up is always forward, pretty cool. This works pretty well on the X5HW, but it takes about 5 seconds to calibrate after a 2 second press of the button, so it's best done on the ground after initial pairing and trimming. I did find that in headless mode sometimes when trying to rotate or spin in place, the quad would dip or lean to the direction I was trying to rotate and lose altitude, not sure why and was only experienced in this mode. The X5HW's biggest downfall is its weight. It's very light and wants ZERO wind to operate correctly. Even a 3-5 mph light breeze prohibits decent control. Even in high rate mode, I found giving the quad full stick was not enough. There were several times when the quad would not come back to me at all, even with a strong tail breeze, which should have helped it...not sure why this happened. Because even the slightest breeze can throw the quad from one altitude to another, getting decent video footage was near impossible for me.Speaking of video footage, the X5HW also has FPV, which I had a hard time with. The quad's camera will put out its own wifi signal and with the Syma app installed on your smartphone, you can pick up video straight from the camera. Great in theory, but not very functional in the real world. My particular phone, an ASUS Zenfone 2E, will automatically close my wifi connection if there is no internet, so after about 1-2 minutes, I lose the FPV feed and have to start all over. There is no setting in my Android 5.0.1 OS to remedy this, so flying in FPV is pretty much useless.*** BE AWARE OF THIS AND MAKE SURE YOUR OS HAS THE ABILITY TO IGNORE INTERNET FREE WIFI CONNECTIONS ***The wifi signal also does not get you very much distance. I found that about 50 feet was all I could get before the video signal cut out. The Syma App (SYMA FPV) even showed about a 25% signal loss at only 10 feet away, so don't expect explorer drone performance at this price point. When I am able to record video, the picture is extremely grainy, has heavy jello, poor focus and internal light balance frequently changes the brown, sandy desert I live in to a light blue hue, sometimes purple. I was not expecting GoPro performance on a $60 quad anyway, so it's not a big deal. Another thing to note is that flying in FPV is more for camera recording than navigation...there is just simply not enough time to look at your screen, especially in wind. Video footage is recorded on your smart device and hidden inside the SYMA folder and recorded in MOV format, so you will need to use VLC or Quicktime to view the files. The SYMA app will allow you to play the files straight from it, but it crashed anytime I attempted to do so. I hate the MOV format or anything to do with Apple like Quicktime, but I knew this going in.The construction of the X5HW is surprisingly decent. Having worked through my initial flight issues and battling 3-5 mph winds, It was inevitable that it would crash, and crash it did, several times with no damage. After crashing you have to pull both right and left sticks down and in towards one another to shut down the quad, which takes about 5 seconds for the rotors to stop spinning. During that time they WILL become nicked or possibly worse. The shutdown time could have been shorter to avoid this. Flight times were around 3-4 minutes the first few charge/discharge cycles, but grew to 5-6 minutes, with a charging time of about 90 minutes. Of course, flight conditions determine flight times, so battling a light breeze will diminish battery life sooner. If you want to learn from your mistakes without having to wait 1.5 hours, I highly suggest purchasing a few extra batteries.Overall, I think the X5HW is just ok for the price. It has decent altitude hold, headless mode is great for all beginners and the quad can take a hard fall and keep going. The lack luster performance in even the slightest breeze, poor camera performance and weak FPV signal strength take it to 3 stars. The X5HW can be flown without the cam attached, but I did not see an increase in performance or flight time. If you are looking for a beginner quad copter with headless mode and altitude hold, which are now standard features in all decent drones now, but don't care about the FPV camera feature, there are better options out there for less.

Pretty easy to control
My 12 year old loves this!! Pretty easy to control, and we ordered some spare parts, which he was able to easily trade out by himself.

Great for beginners
This product is great! Easy to fly. Great for young children or beginners. My only complaint is battery life but I know in general the batteries do not last long in drones.

My dad enjoyed his other drone that he got from Best Buy better; but my fiance and I agree that he doesn't have good taste in quadcopters, haha.

Nice little starter drone just remember that the range is not that of the much higher drones, Cam is decent a lot of fun for the kids. Just don't fly in wind above 12 mph. very light for its size.

Good drone!
Altitude hold is great. Flies well in light wind in fast mode. Better than X5C.

Great little drone, make sure you have the space and low winds to enjoy it....
I love this little quad. This is my first and the features are great. Make sure you have space, low winds and in high rates mode to not get blown away and you are off. I ditched the camera, way easier to fly line of sight. Get extra batteries from one of the suppliers, I got the HobbyTiger 1200mah set and charger. Makes a world of difference as once all charged you've got a solid 30 mins of flight time excluding the time taken to change batteries. The initial included battery is smaller and (capacity) so the upgraded ones are a real must to get the most from this drone. It has 6 axis stablisation and height hold, however even in a very light breeze will drift. I love this as my first drone and will definitely be out again with it this weekend! Only word of caution, its too big for indoor flying unless you have a massive room and high ceilings! I don't have the biggest garden so did have to make a neighbors garden retrieval systems (a hook, some tape and an extendable pole) at 38 it would have felt weird knocking and asking for my drone back....Although it turns out that they had been watching me fly and saw I hit they shed at speed when I chatted to them later. Anywho, have fun, get the batteries and spares (although very robust) and you are away.

Incredibly well built
I bought this is as a slight upgrade to my foldable drone which although was quite forgiving of my terrible flying, took a few too many bangs. This isn't foldeable which means less moving parts and a sturdier body, which is a win for me.I was incredibly surprised and very please to see that the propellor guards we to be screwed in (my previous ones were clipped on). another plus due to the added sturdiness and the quality of the parts are brilliant. The drone comes with a spare set of propellors which hopefully I won't need too soon. The camera isn't all that but you don't need to connect it, it is attached seperately which is a big plus that the company gives you the option.Overall, a very good drone that is built to last. Definately recommend

You get what you pay for, just don't get it for kids.
If you're looking for something for a kid, I suggest you look elsewhere.Don't get me wrong, it is not bad. Just make sure you have sufficient room away from any obstacles. Preferably in a park or a field or a large back garden. The main reason being that the drone seems to have some 'sway' to it meaning that it keeps moving in one direction if you leave the direction stick stationary, so it can wander off a bit. The manual mentions something about fine-tuning, but that didn't do anything for me.Also, think twice before trying to make it go higher (>2 meters), the manual says that this has "relatively stronger wind-withstanding capacity". To what, a kite?Seriously, and what doesn't help is, that in my case, there was a lag between me telling it to go left/right and it actually doing it. Leaving me pointing the remote at the sky like a scared child. This happened when I was standing less than 5 meters away from the drone. But the battery life with the 2 provided is quite good. It lasted me a good 15 minutes and then I stopped voluntarily, so could have gone longer. In addition, I have had a smaller and cheaper drone with an emergency cut off using a button or if the craft flipped over. This has nothing of the sort, so if you do happen to flip over you need to quickly decrease thrust. Which isn't as good as an emergency cut off. Finally, don't set your expectations too high when purchasing this. It is only good as a 'toy' and as a stepping stone to some of the more expensive drones (I recommend the DJI Spark or Parrot Bebop 2)Oh almost forgot, the camera. You're better off taking it off and getting some more flight time. It's not anything to write home about and given the range, you could/would probably do a better job of filming with your phone, it's just a gimmick. But for £40ish you can't really ask for much more.

Good piece of kit for the price
My second syma drone and very pleased with it. Well built and sturdy. Has all the features you can expect from a drone in this price range. Altitude hold, headless mode, 360 degree flips, different speed etc. Has 4 legs so easier for take off and landing. You can either use the remote control or the syma app to control the drone although the remote control is better as its more responsive that way. Remote control also has a phone holder so you can attach your phone and see via the drone camera. Connection to the drone is done via WIFI and of course you need the app to view the video. App is called Syma GO on the google play. I believe you can get it on iOS too.Out of the box, the drone might need some trimming. Mine was flying a bit to the left so I had to correct it to hover in one place. Instructions in the manual tell you how to do this. Range is about 30-50 meters which could have been better to be honest. Also a slightly heavy breeze makes it harder to control so best to use when its not windy. you should get about 5-7 minutes of flight time with a full charge. Spare battery comes in handy. Video quality is not anywhere near as good as the DJI, but then again this is under £50 quid and the DJI costs at least 10x the price of this so when you take the price into consideration, video is not that bad. Good bit of kit for the price.

This is a very nice drone , it has slightly different controls set up to the original syma x5wc, taking off was nice as it reminds me of a phantom ( starting the motors by pressing up once on the throttle then simply pushing up again to start flying. It is much easier for beginners to use as it has hover function it doesn't need the constant twitching of the throttle stick to keep it up . Not sure how quick the propellers can be turned off in an emergency but so far it has been excellent to fly

Amazing Drone!
I bought this for a friend because he like silly little toys like this but have tried on my own for hours and i'm kind of thinking of keeping it for myself, i had so much fun! it flies like a dream after a little fine tuning and the app for the camera was easy enough to install and the camera isn't that bad it seemed fluent to me and had decent quality and to my surprise it came with 2 batteries for the drone inside, i haven't even gone through one of them yet and i was playing with the drone for a good hour and a bit and it seems to only take an hour to fully charge so in theory with battery swapping you can fly this endlessly, very pleased and would recommend to anyone.

Best First Drone or Just Good Fun.
One of best drones to learn with. Even if you buy a DJI you will still come back to the Syma X5HW. Great stable hover mode and has a flip button. Camera is removable for more flight time and fun. Buying this will not break the bank But Will with the cheap spare batteries put a big smile on your face. Very tough Drone. Takes a licking and keeps on flying.

Easy to use and control
Perfect for days out in the summer. It requires a bit of calibration so better to get it started at home. Preferably in an open space as it does take a bit of time to get the controls right. Once the calibration is done and you get the hang of the controls then its a breeze. The battery could be longer but then there are two in the pack which makes up for it.

Great machine works as described,
Great machine works as described, hover facility excellent, turns into even more fun when in highspeed mode- wow very responsive & very quick. easily maneuverable with 10-12mph wind. moves fastest when flyingdiagonally (good to get out of trouble!!). First person flying fun but limited to a bit of buffering but to beexpected really, flew it really high and got wonderful view of the town. Tricks are easy and controller easy to use.would i recommend.. YES, oh yes get at least 4/5 spare 750mAhr LION batteries watch out for the bespoke keyways -youhave to by syma dedicated but its worth it, SW

Apart from that a really good buy for my grandson
If you buy this product ensure that you buy separate battery packs. I bought a five pack. Because the battery that comes with it gives 5 minutes of flying and that is not enough. Apart from that a really good buy for my grandson

Arrived used and damaged with no free gift - had to return
Arrived used with no free gift. Blades were worn and it had hair wrapped around the base of one of the blades. Visible damage to the drone and the drone box itself was open when it arrived. Free gift was missing and parts were all over the box when opened. Will have to try and order another one as already got spare parts and batteries.
