Compiled by the ever-knowledgeable Dean Rudland, the second Backbeats Artists release is by veteran Soul diva, Laura Lee, who notched up an impressive stream of classic Soul hits throughout the early 1970s with her own particular brand of raunchy earthy femininity via 20 tracks which cover the cream of her Hot Wax recordings.

Presenting Ms. Laura Lee
She has the pipes, the attitude, and lord knows the 'fro -- that's her own hair she's wearing as a shoulder-fur! She just didn't always have the songs. But when she connected she was revolutionary. This loving comp gathers just about everything I need by Ms. Lee, and I sure do need her, even if she isn't quite a first grade soul singer. She is indispensable nonetheless.

Excellent 70s soul
Laura Lee first achieved success on the Chess label in the sixties, but this collection focuses on her early seventies music for the Invictus label and its Hot Wax subsidiary. Some of the song titles appear provocative, but merely reflect changing times. The second song (Wedlock means padlock) is about a bad marriage, but it seems these days that a lot of people have doubts about the very idea of marriage.Rip off (a top 3 American R and B hit) and Women's love rights (another big R and B hit) were also successful singles for Laura during this period of her career, but she recorded plenty of great music with a nice mix of ballads and up-tempo songs. If you enjoy this collection and you haven't already got any of her sixties music, be sure to buy some of that too.

Wonderful
Some great tracks including 'Since I Fell For You', 'I Can't Make It Alone' and 'I'll Catch You When You Fall'. Well worth the money to hear the wonderful early seventies stuff from Holland - Dozier - Holland.

Her narrative style of singing is super and her feminism struggle is what she pushes
The lady got soul, listen to At Last, Since I fell for you, Her picture matches mine, I can't make it alone you'll agree with me. Her narrative style of singing is super and her feminism struggle is what she pushes.

Soul Diva
Excellente compilation de la Supreme Soul Diva Laura Lee, merci Backbeat ! Juste un petit bémol : il manque selon moi un titre disco "Satisfaction"...j'adore ce titre et il me fait défaut !
