These plant hangers do work....if you know how to use them.
The media could not be loaded. When we first purchased these from Amazon we thought this would do the trick to raise and lower potted plants to a lower elevation that we can water them. We had a dickens of a time getting them to work. So, I reread the reviews and figured out how to raise and lower them. A little quick upward motion and they will slowly extend about 24 inches or so. To retract them, simply raising back to the original position and they'll lock into position and hang about an inch lower. They will not retract completely to the closed position. This is a minor issue for us. You can lock these in any position as long as you raise them slowly and allow them to lock in your desired location. If you try to raise them too rapidly, it won't lock anywhere.

Works well !!!
I put these up today to hang some large ferns. I’d read other reviews so I had an idea of how they work...just hold the kind of square piece of plastic just above where the hanging plant hangs onto the hook, and the plant will go up or down. When trying to go up or down, I held the square piece and pushed up from underneath the plant. It takes a couple of times doing that before it locks in place. Remember —it will only go as high as you can reach for the button!I added a “Double round eye swivel” which is two rounded metal pieces connected in the middle, and they swivel. I hung the swivel from the pulley hook and hung the plant in the other end of the swivel. That way, when I want to rotate the plant it’ll be easier. If the pulley breaks soon or there’s a problem, I’ll be sure and update this. But for now I’m happy with it, as it’s obviously strong enough to hold these ferns and easy enough to use. Plus I think it’s a bargain for 4 pulleys!

IMPORTANT - Use the Correct End
For those having difficulty, I suggest: 1) Watch the video in the customer comments. 2) Be certain you're using the correct ends. In this model, the triangle hook must be on top (attached to your roof, eave, etc.); the open hook end must be on the bottom (i.e. attached to whatever you are hanging). If the wrong end is used, the pulley won't lock into place.

Instructions for success!
I was very confused why I was having intermittent success using my four retractable plant hangers which, presumably, should work. What's now working consistently for me: use both hands/not one; lift and pull down QUICKLY - not HARD, just Quickly! The magic moment of the downward release seems to be in the first second or two. Additionally, on the upward lift, use both hands and go slowly. This means setting my watering can down, but I'd rather do that than climb a ladder every time I water! Very happy with this product now that I have it working.

Great pulleys, all worked as described
Had a number of the the original "Easy Reach" pulleys 10+ years ago and they worked great. Wanted a few more so I purchased these. The principle is pretty simple, let the plant come down with some speed and it will come down, let the plant come down slow or a slight up and down motion and the plant will lock. All four pulleys I received worked as described. There are two major changes from the original I noticed. 1) The original used carabiners whereas this new design uses a closed metal triangle for the top and a j-hook for the bottom. 2) The internal spring is not as strong in these compared to the original (though this seems to make it more reliable in latching). I would recommend these to a friend.
