Galapagos [Blu-ray]

Friends, i rarely write movie and disc reviews on amazon. After witnessing this splendor, i was pulled, compelled, overwhelmed to write anything on this title! it deserves 20 Stars! BBC HD has done it again.As others have pointed out, if you watched  Planet Earth - The Complete BBC Series [Blu-ray ], GALAPAGOS take you to the next level! The narration, visual photography, the sound and the context of the entire idea is just mesmerizing.To show how much i was into this, i had just come back from a 16 hour shift (this week has been like this all 5 days) i came back and found this amongst other amazon goodies. I was looking forward to it but was not expecting what i saw. I played it in and there i was moved for the next 2 hours until my body and brain could not take it anymore. i had to sleep due to exhaustion! but rest assured i continued when i got back the next day. I had no idea how much beauty and life still exists on this planet despite us plundering the earth's resources.This title only can be appreciated fully on Bluray! i don't want to make this a DVD Format discussion but anyone watching this on a 92'' diagonal HD Projection screen can appreciate what this disc has to offer.I have other productions of nature like films also on Bluray but nothing compares to this title. If you love your theater setup and want to push the visual boundaries of any setup, get this disc! (possibly even  Planet Earth - The Complete BBC Series [Blu-ray ] as well!) i also got  Alaska: Spirit of the Wild (IMAX) [Blu-ray ] but will review it after a while.happy watching everyone!

Incredible footage on par if not better than Planet Earth. The BBC has really done a wonderful job. The narrator's voice doesn't quite give me that "Child listening to grandpa tell a story" feeling that I get when I hear David Attenborough (sp?) talk. The film manages to touch upon the subject of conservation without being rediculously preachy. Thankfully, Galapagos does not speak of the fictional boogeyman of manmade global warming(or does it so briefly that I cannot remember), so I didn't have to roll my eyes or laugh at the absurdity of the idea at any point in the documentary.One fixation the show has is on Charles Darwin. I am a believer in evolution, however, God designed his creations with that ability, ironically leaving humans to be largely unchanged (with the exception of our minds). Thankfully, Galapagos also avoids the sensitive subject of religion and manages to see Darwin's observations as simple science, leaving religion up to the viewer. One thing I do find myself wondering while watching is, "How can someone see things as beautiful as the life in this documentary and not believe that a perfect Being created it all?". Yes...Galapagos IS that breathtaking.

Some excellent photography, but too many scenes are reused in the series. Narration is good, but Sir Richard is just without equal. The reenactments about Darwin are overwrought. Worth buying if you get it at a good price.

Love it or Hate itMy comment:This is not a movie, it is a documentary.. so it don't matter if it is 1080i or 1080p because it is not a movie period. Those people been using a better quality camcorders.The video is stunning as I speak.. Some of yall only complain over some numbers like 1080i and it is so childish, listen this is not a movie.The audio is only Dolby Digital 2.0 because the movie itself about 150 mins cause it was split in three chapters with HD Picture Quality. So it much been that it wasnt enough room for 5.1 but lucky me that I owned an THX Certified Onkyo TX-705 that convert Dolby 2.0 into THX Natural 7.1!!! So don't matter to me cause i can hear 7.1 with the help of THX.No Extras? I really dont care how they film it but I know they done a great job.Overall its a 5 out of 5 for me and I recommend any blu-ray owner for this and thanks for reading...

Galapagos is about the little known Galapagos Islands, which is about 600 miles off the coast of South America, and comprises of at least 100 small Islands. It is the only place in the world you will find Marine Iguana's, and Galapagos Tortoise's. All of these Islands were made from volcanic eruptions from beneath the ocean, which is constantly occurring, and it continually builds these Islands.I really enjoyed the beautiful site of liquid lava, the beautiful red hot, or roseate looking, and orange colors shooting up into the air as it is rebuilding these Islands. The underwater scenes are crystal clear, and at times it actually looks like a real underwater scene. This movie has a good narrator who is easy to listen to, and she carefully explains the wildlife, and the surroundings to you. Most of the overhead shots looking down onto the Islands, give you a wider view of the enormous size of some of these Islands.

Beautiful! Bought for our Darwin & Evolution unit from Build Your Library. It is one of the movies the curriculum suggests watching during the time we are studying Darwin's travels on the Beagle to the Galapagos Islands. Our kids loved this documentary! The colors and the up close and personal shots of the animals were just amazing! It takes you though the formation of the islands, to its first visitors, and the plant/animal/sealife of the islands.Great quality!!!

In den 2,5 Stunden Spielzeit der Blu-ray gibt es einen erstklassigen Einblick in die Entstehung und Entwicklung der Galapagos Inseln. In tollen Bildern werden das marine Leben, die Fauna und Flora, die dort zufällig „angelandet“ ist, sich der Umgebung angepasst und sich spezialisiert hat und sich in einer ständigen Weiterentwicklung befindet, vorgestellt. Es befinden sich drei Dokumentation von gut 50 Minuten Länge auf dieser Scheibe.BORN OF FIRE erklärt die Entstehung der Inseln, welche ca. 1.000 Kilometer westlich der ecuadorianischen Küsten (Südamerika) isoliert am Äquator im Einzugsgebiet von vier Meeresströmungen liegen. Die Inseln sind vulkanischen Ursprungs und werden daher buchstäblich aus Feuer geboren. Die tektonische Platte auf der die Inseln liegen, ist in Bewegung und daher machen die Inseln eine regelrechte Entwicklung durch, bis sie schließlich als Ödland wieder im Meer verschwinden. Natürlich werden in dieser Folge werden auch einige der tierischen Bewohner näher vorgestellt. Die bekanntesten Tiere dürften wohl die riesigen Schildkröten und die See Iguana sein.THE ENCHANTED ISLANDS schildert die zufällige Entdeckung der Galapagos Inseln durch den Spanier Tomás de Berlanga im Jahre 1535. Natürlich kann auch schon vorher ein Mensch da gewesen sein, aber darüber gibt es keine Aufzeichnungen. Ausführlich wird auf den Besuch des Naturforschers Charles Darwin eingegangen, welcher während seiner fast fünfjährigen Reise mit der HMS Beagle der Inselgruppe im Jahr 1835 einen Besuch abstatte. Auch in dieser Folge gibt es viele sehr schöne Bilder der Tier- und Pflanzenwelt zu sehen.FORCES OF CHANGE beschäftigt sich mit dem Brutverhalten der Land Iguana und dem einiger Vogelarten. Zudem wird ausführlich auf das Leben unter Wasser eingegangen. Die Auswirkungen der Meeresströmungen werden erläutert, denn diesen stehen in Zusammenhang mit der Brutzeit einiger Tiere, denn es gibt Strömungen, die bringen für einige Spezies Nahrung im Überfluss mit sich. Die Tiere haben sich auch daran angepasst. In den El-Niño-Jahren verändern sich die Strömungen und die Nahrung aus dem Meer bleibt für gewisse Arten aus, was unter Umständen zu einer großen Dezimierung dieser Tiere führen kann.In dieser Folge wird auch auf die Auswirkungen des Galapagos Tourismus und das damit zusammen hängende Bevölkerungswachstum auf den größeren Inseln eingegangen. Tourismus und Natur sind leider nicht kompatibel und die Folgen sind, dass durch eingeschleppte Tierarten den heimischen Tierarten das Futter wegfressen wird (wie zum Beispiel durch Ziegen). Hinzu kommen natürlich die üblichen Verdächtigen wie Ratten, Katzen und Hunde, die als „Raubtiere“ den Bestand einiger Tierarten direkt bedrohen. Es wird gezeigt, dass gegen die Ziegen mit Abschuss vorgegangen wird… sie werden per Helikopter gejagt und abgeknallt. Tausende wurden bereits abgeschossen.Das Bild liegt in 1080i und im Format 1.85:1 vor. Auf meiner Rahmenleinwand sind die Nahaufnahmen wahrlich gelungen und noch besser die extremen Nahaufnahmen der Tiere und Pflanzen geworden. Der Detailreichtum, ob nun beim Gefieder oder den Schuppen, der sich da auf meiner Leinwand zeigte, ist einfach fantastisch. Hin und wieder punktet das Bild mit schöner räumlicher Tiefe. Durch die Bank weg wunderbar sind die Unterwasser Aufnahmen. Leider gibt es immer wieder mal verschwommene und weiche Aufnahmen, was vielleicht auf einem TV nicht so auffallen wird.Der Ton liegt in leider nur LCPM Stereo vor. Das ist mehr als schade. Der Ton ist zwar gut, aber kommt akustisch leider nicht viel rüber. Bei einigen Aufnahmen, zum Beispiel den Brandungsszenen, wäre etwas mehr Schub schön gewesen. Zumindest einen Dolby Digital 5.1 Track hätte dieser Auflage spendiert werden können. Die Sprecherin, Tilda Swinton, macht ihre Sache gut, klingt jedoch für meine Begriffe ein wenig steif und verhalten. Das hatte Richard Attenborough mit seinem locker- flockigen Ton und einer Prise Humor in der Doku LIFE besser drauf.

Excelente serie documental de tres episodios sobre el archipiélago de las Galápagos. Buena narración y escenas muy interesantes. El hilo conductor del documental es muy claro y didáctico. Se tratan diferentes temas como la explicación geológica del origen de las islas, su colonización por distintas especies de plantas y animales, la evolución de las especies insulares aisladas del continente, la influencia de las principales corrientes oceánicas y las amenazas que sufren ese entorno en la actualidad.Perfecto para tener una idea más precisa de la importancia biológica de las Galápagos.

encore un super reportage de BBC EARTH sur un archipel d'iles uniques au monde autrefois appellées "les iles enchantées".avec une position particulière au carrefour de 4 courants maritimes majeurs,une activité volcanique sous marine et terrestre intense,une vie végétale et animale exeptionnelles et uniques, ces 3 documentaires sont à mon avis une reference sur le sujet.AU POINT DE VUE TECHNIQUE une image très souvent extraordinaire, du niveau de LIFE ET PLANET EARTH.deux points faibles pour tenter de trouver quelque chose à redire. - la piste son en dolby digital 2.0 seulement, dans lequel on ne s'immerge pas vraiment alors que la jaquette mentionne du LPCM. - j'aimais bien la narration de David Attenborough dans la plupart des titres de la serie, ici remplacé par Tilda Swinton qui remplit très bien son role.anglais seulement (son + stitres) comme le reste de la serie, mais très bonne diction de la narratrice.comprehensible avec un niveau d'anglais moyen et un dico pour certains mots techniques.
