Captivating story
I enjoyed the pacing in this book and the way we are navigated through the world. The building of how we experience the world pulls you in a little at a time. I liked that Kerrigan viewpoint on things were different. Like even though we were told about a specific place or experience she had more than once her ability to grow/mature brought new insight for her. For instance when the rioting happened when she was younger. The complexity of her relationships was definitely one of my favorite things about the story. Her and Prince Fordham connect were straight sparks. For them to not have removed any clothes and have so much chemistry bleed through the page.. I'm here for it.The tension from all the different plotlines intermingling to find out what's going on. It keeps you in a state of suspense. Starting the next book asap.

“You have bewitched me so. And she was lost to him.”
“Do you trust me?” “Yes,” he said easily. “Then trust me.”Kerrigan Argon, half fae, half human, abandoned when she was a child and fighting for a place in her world. Adopted into House of Dragons. Ker makes a bargain… one month until the end of the tournament to find a tribe to accept her. As a form of punishment, she is to escort Fordham Ollivier, the fae prince who escaped hs dark throne in House of Shadows. A favor for a favor and the duo ally themselves. Will Ker be able to find a tribe to accept her?I love Kerrigan’s character- she is brave, wild, reckless, tough, spunky, spontaneous, and fiercely loyal. Fordham, the sad, broody boy who writes sad, broody poetry. Adore that princeling. Need more romance! More, more, more! The elemental magic system is RAD. The dragons (and riders) are awesome and remind me of wyverns from ToG. The tournament felt similar to the tri-wizard cup. Super cool, fantasy world with one BAWSE, female MC! HoD is perfect for fans of Holly Black and SJM.🐲 READ IF YOU LIKE 🐲:-elemental magic-super slow burn romance (sub plot)-political intrigue & rules of royal houses-murder mystery & mayhem-dragons the size of wyverns (Throne of Glass series)-dark, broody fae prince-BAWSE female lead (Aelin vibes)🎶 Song: Believer by Imagine Dragons 🎶

amazing world
the hardest part about fantasy books for me is jumping into a whole new world blind feeling like i’m catching up to what, where, when, who the hell is going on. the world of house of dragons is complex, interesting, deep, and completely dimensional and the best part is that it’s introduced in a completely digestible way. i love the way the world and its complexity opens up gradually instead of all at once. i also love the characters, even if they are rarely seen their personality still shines through leaving you curious but not distracted by them. i loved the overall pacing of the book besides towards the end (no spoilers) when everything “falls into place” it happens very quickly all in succession and it felt a little marvel/superhero-y yay weallsavedthedayandeverythingisrightintheworld and then it went back to the pace i personally prefer which was nice instead of just a the end after. overall so good though, i will definitely be reading this whole series & more (ps i have been able to bring myself to finish a book in probably a year, thank you for helping me fall back in love with reading.)

Slow build up
This is a slow build up with a lot of information.I liked Kerrigan. She’s fierce, she’s half fae and half human but she has powers. There are powers she has that she doesn’t know about.Prince Fordham and Kerrigan are attracted to each other. This has a lot going on and feels a lot longer than it is. It’s a good beginning to the series.I absolutely love the cover to each book. They are stunning.I’d recommend this book. Don’t let yourself go by the reviews and form and opinion of your own. I haven’t read any of the books mentioned in the reviews so it didn’t affect my opinion.

Good story, but a few head scratchers
While this story is similar to several others with protagonists who are scrappy and trying to prove their worth, it has a few original twists. Unfortunately, some of these twists are less believable than if the author had stuck with the tried and true “kid goes to magic training school and works his/her way to the top.” As it is, the twists feel forced or contrived. Then the head scratching happens.Maybe the author will address these plot holes or make excellent use of them in later books? My biggest problem is the protagonist’s rejection by her father for not being full fae. Didn’t he know her mother was human??Middle school and high school readers might be most comfortable with the plot as it sails along briskly with a bit of romance, some violence with vague references to injuries (not a lot of gory details), some teenaged friends, a lot of risk-taking for adventure, some mystery, and some anger toward parents. There are references to addiction, vague possible sexual relations in the past, some secondary characters are non binary/bisexual, and there is alcohol consumption to a state of inebriation several times, murders, assassins, kisses, magic and dragons.

I could not put it down!
This story was magnificent! It took me back to my high school days of reading Harry Potter. It was full of magic, danger, and mayhem with a tiny sprinkle of romance potential.Kerrigan is a strong female heroine. She is faced with dangers seen and unseen. She has to rely on gut to know who to trust and who not to trust!Fordham is a prince from the all-but-forgotten Dark Court. He has secrets and a mystery about him. When He finds himself entangled with Kerrigan due to some unknown force or reason he has no other choice but to let events play out. But during his and Kerrigan as journey all the things he's been taught is put to the test.He has to decide whether to give in to the connection that he has found with Kerrigan or go back to how things were before. This book was full of all the things I'd been missing in a book lately. It was exciting and I found myself staying up all night to finish it. Please read this book! It was worth all the ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐'s! Please follow me on Twitter @964bookluvr

A Must-Read Fantasy Masterpiece!
House of Dragons (Royal Houses Book 1) has left me absolutely spellbound! As a devoted fan of fantasy literature, I can confidently say that this book is a shining gem in the genre.Jessica L. Richardson has crafted a breathtaking world filled with intrigue, magic, and complex characters that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. The royal houses and their intricate power struggles are depicted with such finesse that I found myself deeply engrossed in their dynamics. The character development in this book is outstanding. Each member of the dragon rider contestants is unique and memorable, making it incredibly easy to become emotionally invested in their fates. I found myself torn between my allegiances, which is a testament to the author's skill in creating multifaceted characters. The pacing of the story is spot-on, and the writing is simply enchanting. I couldn't put the book down, and I was often torn between savoring every word and racing to find out what happens next. The plot is full of unexpected twists and turns that left me gasping in surprise. If you're a fan of epic fantasy with a dash of political intrigue, House of Dragons is an absolute must-read. I can't wait to continue the journey with the Royal Houses series, and I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment. This book deserves all the stars and more!

A surprising delight
I went in this book with little hope in finding a decent book and I was so happy I was wrong. I greatly enjoyed the book and the characters themselves. I am not a fan of the protagonist in that she is a little too "woe is me" but the author has done really well in letting their characters have flaws that make them relatively. This will be a book I will be very happy to reread in future.

enjoyable and fun
Most of the tropes that hold our attention in the genre. But multi-dimensional characters and crisp, clear narrative. Interesting world building makes this worth reading. I enjoyed it very much and hope to read more.
