Havahart Aluminum Pet Door

I bought one of these doors in 2010 and then when I needed to replace the door flap in 2013, I had to buy another entire door to the tune of $80 since they don't make replacement doors. So this time around, instead of paying $85 for another full unit, I decided to buy another door from a different company that actually makes replacement door flaps. I bought from another company thinking I'd probably have to alter the size of the hole in the door, but it actually fit perfectly with no alterations needed. I had never heard of this brand before. I purposely ordered an aluminum door because 1) it was going in a metal door; 2) the cold weather, etc., is hard on plastic .. period!! The door was easily installed, even without decent directions. There was one screw missing.. but 3 out of 4 still managed to ensure a good seal. The price was decent, compared to the other available products. The time it took to receive the product was very good. (And the fact the S&H was free made a huge difference in the total purchase price!!) I thought I was getting one with 2 flaps, but that was probably my mistake. I do like the fact it has a metal fitting to slide into the opening and fasten securely, ensuring no one comes in uninvited!! I got a LG because I have a 70 lb border collie mix. The size is just right.

I purchased and installed this door in September. It is now December and the flap is already ripped off and there are no replacement flaps anywhere on the interwebs. I already cut my door to this size and now I will have to cut a different size hole to accommodate a different door. Don't buy.

I've owned other pet doors, with the plastic frame and plastic locking panel. As my yellow lab grew larger he started jumping on it with his front paws and popping the panel out of its grooves and entering the house when he wasn't supposed to. This Havahart aluminum pet door solved my issue. It comes with a steel locking panel and an aluminum frame. No dog can pop this one open. The door has a white finish and was very easy to install in the previous door cut-out I had. It is a quality door that I would highly recommend for people with larger dogs.

Here's the thing with this doggy door-- I bought one when I first got my dog, and it lasted for two years (great!) and then the plastic flippy part started ripping off the aluminum frame. So I was like "that's ok, I'll just get a replacement flap for like $15 or something and problem solved. Except! They do NOT make replacement flaps for aluminum doors, so yes, I had to buy a completely new dog door for $70. I will never buy from this company again.

There was a flaw in the flap and it cracked within 6 months. I got it taped up with gorilla tape now until I find a replacement.

I bought this pet door to put in a new door because it was the size needed for our two small dogs. In less than two months the flap had completley broken off where it attaches to the top of the frame. It looks like the plastic is not flexible enough so it cracks and eventually breaks off.The warranty says after 30 days you have to pay a $15 processing fee plus shipping to return the door to the manufacturer. When I called to get the return authorization number a very nice representative said she would have a new door sent to me free of charge. Apparently this is a known issue and a lot of people are complaining about it. Hopefully the replacement door won't have the same problem.Update: The replacement door lasted about three months before the flap broke off again. I'm amazed how bad this door is, especially because we have another pet door made by PetEze (now PetSafe) that has a flap that lasted over 20 years before needing to be replaced. Unlike the Havahart door, the PetSafe door  PetSafe PetSafe Freedom Pet Door - Small PPA00-10859  has a flap that is replaceable. I'll just keep with PetSafe products from now on.

Bought this in late 2010; it is used between interior doors and gets very little use. Despite this the rubber flap fell off (broke at the top edge) as so many others have complained about and now it needs complete replacement. Will definitely buy something different as long as I can find something that fits the same opening.
