a very generous 3, very generous
Young Chinese man living in San Francisco, owns a restaurant, lives at home with Mom And Grandma. He is gay but cannot tell Mom because she wants Grandchildren and keeps trying to fix him up with girls. Mom needs to rent the basement for money so a tenant movies in Robert, very cute played by James Marks. He is the only thing worth anything in this very low budget indie. Friend Tony is way to.....really is. I have seen this story a million times, nothing original. The acting quality is what you would expect...under par, except for James Marks. Billed as a comedy....not funny at all. Some of the support cast is just plain awful. I was uncomfortable with the grown man Daniel played by Jay Wong, being pampered by his mom. It was too much especially the control she has over him.

Boring, Stopped Watching 20 Minutes Into It
The first thing you should know about this film is that it's an amateur production, and it shows. Jokes just fall flat, characters that ought to have character somehow don't. It's just not interesting. I have no idea how it got any favorable reviews, but I suspect the producer was well-connected because that's the only possible explanation.

Cute
This is the type of movie I normally hate and throw straight in the trash. Made by, for, and about 18 year old skinny twinks. Non sexual full frontals all over the place of tiny shaved junk that looks 9 years old that only pedophiles would find hot. Lousy picture and sound. Characters all to young to be good actors. BUT...all these annoying (to me) issues aside, I have to admit it was a cute and endearing little movie. There was the cutest little Asian granny that only spoke mandarin that I think stole the show. I just realized I've said the word "cute" several times, so I guess that has to be my word for this little no budget gem.

Heartwarming, charming romance
Good story, fine acting and interesting characters combine to make this an uplifting enjoyable film. I highly recommend it.

Breaking Traditions. Creating a family the loves and accepts each other.
The movie may not have the best acting or picture, but it gives people hope in finding love.No matter what your parents say or think, you have to live your own life, they already lived theirs.

Not great -- but fun
I can't disagree with others that this wasn't a great movie. It's certainly low-budget, not well directed or edited, and decidedly amateurish. But it's entertaining and fun, and maybe hits a few chords just a little too close to home.Daniel, the perfect Asian son, lives with his widowed mom and his grandmother in San Francisco, as filial Asian boys tend to be expected to. Also in the vein of the perfect son, he can't come out to his family, and his mom relentlessly keeps trying to set him up with women. The family rents out the downstairs room, however, and a cute boarder (Robert) shows up to take the place. Sure enough, the two slowly but surely get together....This movie is not totally about Daniel and Robert's budding romance. Well, it is, but there's more to it than that. The magic of the movie is the family's reaction, Daniel's newfound priorities, and how Robert's unassuming yet formidable role in each. It's the standard stuff the coming-out flicks are made of, but hey, it always manages to tug at the heartstrings, right? We've all been there before, or know someone who has.... or at least we all know how difficult it is to stand up against unreasonable expectations. So yeah, everything about this DVD just screamed "so-so"... but it's still worth a viewing. Oh, and because this IS a DVD, after all... don't forget to take advantage of the special features, including the Director's Commentary cut. Some interesting tidbits in there.

Under One Roof
Even though I bought this DVD used,I still feel like wasted my money. If someone is planning to buy this movie, don't waste your money on this one. You can find much better gay themed movies out there. I read so much about this movie and finally decided to get one and see myself. The quality of acting wasn't what I expected and entire movie looks like a cheaply made movie with the budget as little as possible. I really wonder if those actors and actresses were found on the street to make this movie !?! The story wasn't that good either and every other scene is kind of awkwardly put together. If you like to see a movie with bad acting and a bad story but to see a few scenes of full nudity(even an elect penis in one scene, they could have had real sex scenes if they wanted to show this much nudity),this one is for you but don't expect anything more.

Buy a 'used' copy.
This movie must have had a modest budget. It seemed as if I was watching a home made movie. The storey & writting were okay. The actors were poor to average. I do think if the budget was there it could have been a more enjoyable movie.
