Bible Crossword Puzzles Volume.1

Both the front and inside of this puzzle book say that 98% of the clues will be from KJV bible unless otherwise indicated. That's not true. Just in the first several puzzles, I've encountered over 30 clues that were directly from the NIV bible with only five of them indicating NIV in the clue. I want to enjoy the puzzles, not get frustrated when the clue isn't from the version I'm told it will be. I'm also disappointed in the amount of clues for words such as "of, an, if, is," and the partial word clues. They seem overused in order to force a puzzle to work. It doesn't seem like much time or thought was put into these puzzles.

These puzzles are fairly difficult, which I prefer. But not for the right reason. Many of the references are just taken from a passing sentence. Also the clues tend to be so short that I don't have enough of a reference to come up with the quote. And I am quite familiar with the Bible. I also am not find it the style in which is constructed. There are lots of hanging letters. I prefer American-style puzzles, but that's just my preference. Almost all the clues are from the King James Version, with which I am most familier. That's nice.

Learned a lot about the bible and God's word.

Wish the crosswords answers added into a different biblical story for each puzzle which would be a nice learning summation

Got as a gift, big easy to see letters.

Good puzzle book but its kind of tricky. What I do like about it is that it drives me to learning.

There’s nothing wrong with this bible crossword but I found it way too hard. It is more about filling in the blank words from a bible verse, you would never get the answers without looking up the actual verse - unless you know the bible word for word, which I don't. However it is beautifully laid out and nice quality paper. Lovely for someone who really knows their bible

Suitable gift for family who use the KJV.

The book's approach is based on filling in the blanks of partial verses of scripture instead of eliciting a response through a clue (eg. Name of Jesus' mother).The problem with this approach is that in this book, the clue is provided as a fragment, and thus is often completely ineffective on its own while doing little to expand one's appreciation or challenge one's knowledge of it as written.You can, however, use the scripture reference to look up the verse, but this is particularly annoying when only to find mundane words and not the grand idea, since the answers are often not the significant element of the verse, but common words of language ("and", "it", "so"), parts of the word ("hem", clue starts with "t"), or things unrelated to scripture ("abbreviation for South Dakota"), all just an expedient solution for poor crossword design.Finally, clues are repeated many times throughout the book, as if there were a dearth of material from which to draw. A few repetitions of more obscure references would have been worthy in order to internalize them, but that is not the case here.All in all, an adequate but disappointing book that could have been so much more.
