One Day When I Was Lost: A Scenario Based on Alex Haley's The Autobiography of Malcolm X (Vintage International)

An excellent play written by James Baldwin. I'm thinking they used this book to make the movie about Malcolm X. I enjoyed the book and am glad I added it to my collection.

Riveting drama of the tragic life of Malcolm X--racial victim, honor student, hustler, criminal mastermind, religious and racial fanatic, to social justice prophet, to victim of fratricide.

I thought this was an actual novel but it’s a play. I still read it like it was a bio and acted some of the scenes out with my children.

Great book!

James Baldwin is an extraordinary writer. You can never go wrong reading one of his books. They are always thought provoking and well written. This is no exception.

James Baldwin imagery is amazing . I felt as if I was actually visualizing the story taking place . The reader gets a more intimate view of Malcolm X.

Some writers, write books to be read, but James Baldwin book makes the reader live the book. That is how good this book has been written. I cannot fathom the idea that people did not live this book yet, I have lived and keep living it on every page.

ボールドウィンという２０世紀の文豪がテレビというメディアの為に書き下ろした、たった一つの作品。劇場用の脚本なら他に２作品書いていますが、それらとはやはり趣が違う。マルコムＸというアメリカならだれもが知っているスターの生涯をテレビという最もメジャーなメディア用に書いているが、ボールドウィンが書けばさすがに軽くはならず、かといって重くもなく、テンポ良く読める作品になっている。このシナリオの書かれた背景が知りたければ、同じビンテージ・インターナショナルのノーネーム・イン・ザ・ストリート（邦題：巷に名もなく）の一部にそれが書かれている。
