Great gimbal for long periods of shooting using small cameras.
The first reason I bought this was simply that it fit into 1/3rd of my accessory pelican case, so it travels very well. reletive to other gimbals I've used like Movi and Ronin. I have a Movi M10 for a red epic, for narrative and commercial work, and I use this for smaller shoots with a DSLR where I simply don't have the crew, time, or space to deal a large heavy rig. So i use it for anytime that is has documentary style or crew size, but I want fluid movement and get lots of footage. In my opinion most gimbals should be set up before the shoot with a dedicated camera. You probably could set this up in a short amount of time if your just throwing a small camera on it and leaving the focus fixed or you have some camera with amazing autofocus, but if you add on accessories like wireless follow focus and onboard monitor, you need time to orient and secure all the accessories and cables correctly. Think 3 hours and a lot of bongo ties. Once you are set up though, this tool as part of a second dedicated camera will allow you to get much more and much better B-roll in the same amount of time as you would have gotten on sticks or even handheld. Also, people tend to think the gimble should do all the work, and anyone can just pick it up. Actually, there's a lot of skill to it. Much like operating a Jib or a steadicam you can instantly tell the difference in operating between a skilled operator and an inexperienced one. So make sure your operator has the skills. The better you are with at doing fine moves with a small jib, the better you'll be at this.Only complains I've had with this is that it beeps by default when you turn it on, so you've got to turn that off using the app which takes a bit of time to set up the first time. Second minor complaint is that while using it in mid town manhattan, this is susceptible to interference at intersections causing it to not balance correctly. It was fine on sidewalks but not fine over intersections that are probably going over the subway. The movement is not quite as smooth or stable and consistant as a movi M10 in my experience so far, but the ability to hold this rig close to the body and endure much longer periods of shooting can not be overstated. Thats huge. Great product! Also, I've been using the magnesium version of this.
