Review: Beautiful Concert Ukulele Package! - I am echoing many other people in expressing my appreciation for this fine instrument and it's surrounding accessories. I took this instrument out of its very secure packaging and was amazed. It far surpassed my expectations at this price range. It has closed Gotoh style tuners and an arched back for better sound projection. The finish is beautiful. The tone is beautiful. Ukuleles characteristically have to be tuned and retuned for the first week due to the strings stretching. Joseph Cheung wisely spent a bit more money to equip this instrument with not only Aquila strings but Aquila Super Nylagut strings to make that adjustment more rapid. These strings are formulated to not stretch as much as older models of string. I got my ukulele the evening of Friday, March 24 and tuned it with the accompanying high quality tuner. It actually settled down rather quickly. Little adjustment was needed after the initial tuning and this is the evening of Sunday, March 26, and it has required only minor adjustments. Due to the fact that ukuleles use nylon strings, they go out of tune more frequently than instruments that use steel strings, hence many ukulele players leave a tuner clipped to the headstock. (Do not put steel string on a uke: they put too much stress for the bridge to withstand, as ukuleles don't use a tailpiece which is a sturdier fixture to attach strings to.) The tuner included with this is quite excellent and easy to read, with a display that glows green for each string as it reaches optimal tuning. The craftsmanship is excellent. For example, I happen to own another basic make of concert ukulele at the same price point as this one. It happens to have fret wire that slightly sticks over the side of the fret-board creating a somewhat rough edge: the Lohanu's fret wires are carefully beveled at the edge of the fret-board and are totally smooth when you run your fingers along them, making handling the neck more comfortable for a child's delicate hands. The tone is absolutely wonderful. I believe, when comparing it to the other competitor's instrument, that the arched back has increased the projection and sustain. you can strum both instruments simultaneously and the Lohanu can still be heard several seconds later, while the other instrument had gone quiet! Additionally, I would be remiss if I did not mention the very nice strap and installed strap buttons on this instrument, which few ukes come with. This goes a long way in making the instrument more playable----a beginner has more on their mind learning chords, music theory and strumming and doesn't need to add worry about holding onto the instrument! If all these other reviews and the above don't convince you that this instrument was astonishingly good, perhaps this will: after several hours of living with the Lohanu Concert Ukulele, I ordered the Lohanu Soprano to use at my job during lunch and before work to get in extra practice time! It is now on it's way to me and I will be more than happy to share my reaction to the Soprano as well! You will not make a mistake buying this and the high quality of this instrument at this price point may well make the difference between someone sticking with the instrument or giving it up. Joseph Cheung can be viewed on a YouTube video demonstrating this his product by Googling "Lohanu Concert Ukulele Bundle". He and his staff are very much concerned about consumer reaction to their merchandise and an included message from him states that if anything is amiss, to please notify him, and the problem will be rectified as soon as possible.
Review: Very good starter Uke at a very attractive value point. - OK, I am not a uke player, but I do play piano and guitar so I thought I would take a shot at a ukulele. I am by no means rich so like most I am looking for a budget friendly solution. I took a shot on this kit with low expectations. I mean after all, what can you expect from a complete package for under $100? I went with the concert size which is the most popular and a good choice. Size doesn't matter, really, if you believe it does and want to blame the size of the Uke on your playing ability, just take a look and listen to Israel "Iz" Kamakawiwo playing Over the Rainbow on YouTube - No excuses! To be honest the instrument is nicer than I expected. For under $100 you get a nice instrument with decent string tuners and good strings. I was skeptical about the little instrument tuner that comes in the package, but I am pleasantly pleased with its operation and accuracy. It works as well as and agrees with my much higher priced guitar tuner. Lohanu even sends an extra battery for the tuner and an extra set of strings in the kit. Let's be honest, a tuner will cost about $10 minimum and those little round CR2032 batteries will cost you a buck or two. A new set of strings will cost about $8 to $10. So I am not sure how the manufacturers provides a Ukulele and all of the add-ons for under $100. This package sure meets my requirements for a "budget" solution. The kit comes with a gig bag that is of better quality than I expected. I expected a really thin vinyl bag with no padding. This bag is made of a more durable nylon material with some minimal padding. It should work well for most people and casual use. You sure won't want to put it in checked baggage on a plane, but I wouldn't do that with any gig bag. A hard case would be in order for that type of travel. As I said, the quality of the instrument is good. The finish is nicer than I expected. I will add a coat of lemon oil and then polish it up with some instrument polish to make the neck nice and slick and protect the wood. The fret board came well oiled, straight, and the frets are nicely level and dressed on the ends. The body and the neck both have a nice binding which adds to the looks of the ukulele. The set-up on my ukulele was very good right out of the box. I have not had to make any adjustments to it If you are new to nylon strings, be prepared for a significant break-in period. It took mine 2 or 3 days of regular play and adjustments before they started staying in tune. Don't get frustrated if you find yourself retuning every few minutes the first couple of days. I swear, at times I asked myself how much more these strings can stretch? I keep expecting the E string to break at any moment, it seems (exaggeration) that I have turned the tuner at least 5 or 6 full turns since the original tuning. Be patient and the strings will eventually settle in. Don't think you still won't have to tune often, but you should be able to play for a while without having to retune every few minutes. I think the biggest plus for this Ukulele is the looks, very nice. The workmanship is good for a budget uke, and it sounds really nice. To me a purchase is about value, not just cost. You can get cheaper ukuleles that you probably will not be happy with. Or, you can buy way more costly ukuleles, that I am confident are even more beautiful and better quality than this one. But if you are a beginning player or adding a uke to your repertoire of instruments, I think this kit is an excellent value and an excellent place to start. I know that even $100 is a lot of money to many, but in the world of musical instruments, it isn't much. Don't go super cheap, you will be disappointed and will likely quit playing. This kit is a great value for a new or intermediate player. If it doesn't work out for you, I am confident you can easily resell it and recoup a good portion of your money or give it away to a budding ukulelist without loosing sleep over wasting too much money. If you outright buy a $500-$5000 ukulele I guarantee you will either love it and sleep with it, or feel poorly about spending so much money. Again, this is a great value for beginners or even intermediate players. I am confident you will get years of fun and enjoyment out of your ukulele if you go with this kit. I have not had a need to interface with the manufacturer, but from what I hear the customer service is great. I am pleased with my purchase and don't think you can go wrong with this kit. Good Luck and have fun with your new ukulele adventure. Mahalo!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Review
*by J***P on July 22, 2022*
